AZUSA, Calif. -- No. 15 Midwestern State (8-6) rolled to a 7-0 win over Fresno Pacific (1-6) at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex on Thursday.
Charles Heffernan and
Stephen Slocombe were reunited in the No. 1 doubles match. The pair had not been together for a match since a 6-4 win over MSU Denver on Feb. 4. On Thursday, Heffernan and Slocombe dispatched Ben Cronau and Sven Bangert of the Sunbirds, 6-3.
Luis Diaz Argente and
Juan David Duque handled Martin Ramirez and Gregor Kliimask, 6-2, after starting the road trip with back-to-back losses at No. 2 doubles.
Diaz and Duque improved to 2-0 at No. 3 doubles, and the duo is 8-5 overall this season.
Diaz dismissed Cronau in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, to claim a point at No. 1 singles. Diaz is 6-7 overall in singles and 3-5 in the No. 1 position.
Marcal Miret Avante also posted a straight-set win, defeating Ramirez, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3 singles. Miret is 8-5 in singles with a 5-5 record in the No. 3 spot.
Germano Setti squared off with Joshua Wong in the No.4 singles match, and Setti prevailed, 6-4, 6-3. Setti is 7-3 in the No. 4 position and 9-5 overall in singles for the Mustangs.
Duque waltzed past Kliimask, 6-3, 6-3, to take the point at No. 5 singles, Duque is 4-2 at the No. 5 position, and he is 5-2 in singles overall.
Slocombe played a singles match for the first time since defeating Tyson Cowger of Augustana (S.D.) on Feb. 4. He won the opening set over Bangert, 6-0, and won the second set at No. 6 singles in a tiebreak, 7-4.
Heffernan snapped a three-match losing streak at No. 2 singles by winning a third-set super tiebreak over Brodie Sodersten, 10-4. Heffernan took the opening set, 6-3, and Sodersten forced the super tiebreak with a 7-5 win in the second set.
Midwestern State will play its fourth and final dual in California against Biola at the Biola Tennis Center in La Mirada on Friday at 2 p.m.
