WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Tristan Gabbard and
Makenna Henry delivered Top 20 finishes to help the Mustangs to a fifth-place showing in the Midwestern State Invitational Tuesday afternoon at the Wichita Falls Country Club.
Gabbard, a freshman from Fulshear, logged her fourth Top 20 showing of the season by tying for 11th with an 18-over, 54-hole total of 234. She ranked among tournament leaders by carding 35 pars while accounting for three birdies to mark scores of 78, 77, and 79.
Henry, a sophomore from Sour Lake, finished in the Top 20 for the third time in her last four tournaments tying for 19th with a 21-over total of 237. She logged 29 pars and four birdies while recording scores of 79, 76, and 82.
Sophomore
Brecklyn Flanagan battled her way to 34 pars and carded four birdies to place 22nd with a 23-over total of 239 with scores of 81, 77, and 81, while senior
Beatrice Perucchini recovered to match Henry with MSU's tournament single-round with a 76 on the final circuit.
Perucchini also logged four birdies over the tournament carding tallies of 84 and 80 to go along with the 76 to take 23rd with a 24-over total of 240.
Junior
Madison Brown (87-84-86) tied for 45th with a 41-over 257.
Freshman
Kodi Nolen (77-81-83) logged a team-high six birdies, while sophomore
Hollie James (82-78-81) marked 30 pars on the way to tying for 24th with matching, 24-over totals of 241.
Dallas Baptist claimed its fourth Midwestern State Invitational team title with a 38-over total of 902, which is the lowest 54-hole total in event history. The Patriots also claimed team wins in 2014 at The Champions Course at Weeks Park before winning in 2016 and 2017 at the Wichita Falls Country Club.
DBU junior Olivia Mitchell claimed individual medalist honors firing scores of 74, 72, and 74 for a 4-over total of 220 to win by one stroke over Angelo State's Maria Sierra Sanz.
Mitchell is the second DBU student-athlete to win the MSU Invitational joining Mercedes Rios, who won the event at Weeks Park in 2012.
Midwestern State competes in UT Tyler's King-Alfred Invitational on March 20-21 at The Cascades Golf and Country Club.
