Alexandra Feller set a school record, the Midwestern State 4x400-meter relay squad met a provisional qualifying mark, and freshman
Jaycee Lyons turned in two Top 10 program marks Saturday in Pittsburg State's Crimson and Gold Invitational at Robert W. Plaster Center.
Altogether, the Mustangs set 13 first-time marks and 10 personal bests in the indoor season opener.
Feller cruised to an 18th-place finish with a time of 17:57.88 in the 5,000-meter run to eclipse Gabby Ruiz' nearly 10-year old time of 18:00.76. Feller also ran a PR time of 2:27.24 in the 800-meter dash.
Daiza Jones,
Jessie Heath,
Da'shrana Sims, and
Nidhi Singh combined to finish seventh in the 4x400-meter relay with an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time of 3:52.14.
The time is the second fastest in MSU indoor history and marks the second consecutive year that the Mustangs have met a provisional time in the event.
Lyons paced the best 1-mile time in eight years for the Mustangs, placing 18th overall with a time of 5:12.01. The time ranks fourth on MSU's all-time performance list and is the fastest since Bridget Reilly ran a 5:01.86 in 2016.
Sophomore
Arianna Carballeira (5:27.41/36th) and freshman
Jazira Perez (5:29.59/40th) also turned in collegiate-best performances in the 1-mile run.
Lyons, a Holliday High School graduate, also finished 26th as the Mustangs' top placer in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.80, which ranks ninth on the program's all-time performance list.
Perez (2:26.15/29th), Feller (2:27.24/33rd), and Gattenby (2:42.36/53rd) also improved personal bests for the Mustangs in the 800.
Along with Feller, Midwestern State had two more runners land performance on the 5,000-meter performance list with
Ella Pando placing 23rd with a time of 18:14.68, while
Mariana Sanchez took 28th with a time of 18:39.19.
Rosalene Reyes Perez also logged a PR to finish 33rd with a 19:02.99.
Freshman
Shalisa Williams matched the program's top mark in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing 24th with a time of 9.31.
Reece Johnson ran the same time in 2022.
Fellow frosh
Jaidyn Robinson turned in the third fastest time in program history to take 36th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.56, while
Rylee Gattenby improved her PR to 10.19 to finish 49th.
The Mustangs also enjoyed a strong showing in the 400-meter dash with junior
Daiza Jones leading the way with a time of 58.43. MSU added three newcomers to the all-time performance chart including freshman
Jessie Heath (59.87/35th), junior
Nidhi Singh (59.92/36th), and freshman
Sahara Jessie (1:00.18/38th).
Heath's time was sixth on MSU all-time performance chart followed by Singh at seventh and Jessie at 10th.
Jessie also landed the second-best mark in program history by placing 12th in the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 11 inches while senior
Peyton Lewis finished 15th with a mark of 35 feet.
Junior
Corinne Thorpe turned in MSU's top performances in the 60-meter dash with a PR Time of 7.89 to take 38th and the 200 with a time of 26.45 to finish 39th.
Midwestern State returns to the Robert W. Plaster Center to compete in the Rumble in the Jungle Invitational on Friday, January 19.
