Mustangs fall to Missouri Southern in Rambelle Thanksgiving finale

SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Missouri Southern's Kryslyn Jones didn't start in the final game of the Rambelle Thanksgiving Classic Saturday afternoon at the Junell Center.

But the senior guard needed just 22 minutes to once again torment Midwestern State while leading the Lions to a 90-49 win.

The 5-6 transfer guard from Texas A&M-Kingsville connected in three 3-pointers and went 9-of-16 from the field to lead MSSU with 23 points as one of two returning starters from last season's 27-9 team that fell by one point in the NCAA Division II Central Region final.

While a member of the Javelinas in 2021-22, Jones poured in her four-year collegiate high with 33 points against the Mustangs on her way to earning third-team All-Lone Star Conference honors.

She was joined in double figures by Ryan Franklin (16 points, nine rebounds) and Brandi Hudson (13 points, 10 rebounds) as 11 different Missouri Southern players added to the scoreline.

Midwestern State struggled to a season low 21.3 shooting percentage from the field while playing without leading scorer Kertisa Amos for the second straight game.

Junior forward Zarria Carter suffered through a 1-of-10 shooting performance, but worked her way to a perfect 12-of-12 effort from the charity stripe to finish with her second double-double of the campaign at 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior Eternity Jackson matched a season high with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting including a pair of 3-pointers.

Fellow senior Makayla Coy battled her way to eight points and six rebounds just a day after going for a career-best 33 points and 13 rebounds against No. 15-ranked Tampa (Fla.).

Midwestern State (0-6) opens Lone Star Conference play Thursday night against No. 9-ranked Texas Woman's. Tipoff at D.L. Ligon Coliseum is set for 5:30 p.m.

Missouri Southern improved to 3-2.
