WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 14-ranked Texas Woman's rode a hot start and a balanced attack to roll to a 90-72 win over Midwestern State in the Lone Star Conference opener for both teams Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
HOW IT HAPPENED >>>
Texas Woman's ran out to a 9-2 lead and led by as many as 16 points in the first period and never trailed while improving to 7-1 on the season.
Midwestern State closed the first half on an 11-2 run of its own including nine consecutive powered by
Nikki Green's eight-point explosion to pull within six points at 43-37 just 41 seconds before halftime.
But the Pioneers re-asserted control in the second half by scoring 10 consecutive late in the third period to take a 17-point lead into the fourth period.
Leila Patel, Scout Huffman, and Averee Kelinhans scored 19 points each to lead a group of five TWU players in double figures as Jada Celsur added 17 points and a Ashley Ingram threatened a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists before fouling out in 24 minutes.

- Fifth-year senior Ketisa Amos scored in double figures for her fifth consecutive game after missing the last two due to injury. She finished with 17 points on 8-of-17 shooting with four rebounds and two steals.
- Junior guard
Nikki Green used an eight-point explosion in the second quarter to score a season-high 17 points.
- Fifth-year senior
Makayla Coy notched double-figure points for the third time in the last four games, finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds.
- Freshman
Kyla Speights also scored a season high with 12 points, while dishing out a campaign-best four assists in 30 minutes of her first collegiate start.
- Junior forward
Zarria Carter went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe and has made her last 19 free throws dating back ot the Oklahoma Baptist game on November 21. She finished with eight points and six rebounds before fouling out in 18 minutes against TWU.
- Senior
Keara Felix matched a season high with seven rebounds.
GAME NOTES >>>
- Midwestern State dished out a season-high 15 assists on 27 made field goals, while turning the ball over just nine times. The Mustangs have 10-or-fewer turnovers in two of their last three games.
- Midwestern State has lost its last three games against Texas Woman's, but still lead the Pioneers 41-29 in the all-time series.
