WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State showed flashes of potential in the season opener Friday morning in the Ashbrook Comfort Inn Suites Conference Challenge at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
But it wasn't enough to slowed down UC Colorado Springs' Maison White, who poured in a game-high 22 points to lead the Mountain Lions to an 83-65 win.
The returning All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference second-teamer converted on nine of her 12 shots from the field and polished off a double-double with 1 rebounds.
UCCS used a 13-4 spurt midway through the second period keyed by three consecutive 3-pointers by Emily Vidlae, Mya Wilson, and Breelyn Robinson before White converted a pair of layups to give the Mountain Lions a double-digit advantage at 34-24 with 2:11 left in the half.
Rylie Ottmann and Amyah Moore Allen pitched in 10 points each for UCCS, which led by as many as 23 points in the second half.

Kertisa Amos, a two-time NAIA All American at Texas Wesleyan, paced the Mustangs with 16 points, while pulling down eight rebounds, while returning senior
Eternity Jackson added 12 points on the strength of a 5-for-7 effort from the charity stripe.

Zarria Carter narrowly missed out on a double-double finishing with nine points while hauling in 15 rebounds., while senior
Makayla Coy pitched in nine points with five rebounds.
Midwestern State closes Ashbrook Classic against Adams State Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
The Grizzlies improved to 2-1 with a 63-53 win over Cameron Friday in Lawton.
