OKLAHOMA CITY -- Cassidy Savoy scored her first goal of the year in the seventh minute, but the Mustangs conceded a goal in the 79th minute and settled for a 1-1 draw with Oklahoma Christian at Eagle Soccer Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Savoy scored shortly after an Oklahoma Christian goal was wiped out in the fourth minute by an offside call, which was clarified after referee Darron Killman conferred with the assistant referee.
Kyla Lovelace was in an offside position when a pass was headed near the halfway line by Ruta Andrews. The assistant referee did not immediately raise his flag. As Midwestern State was setting up for the kickoff, the officials indicated the goal was nullified.
With Eagles fans still grousing about the call,
Allessandra Romano made an uncontested run with the ball up the right touchline. Romano played the ball into space, and defender Rani Mueller made a slide tackle that sent the ball into the area.
McKenna Jenkins gathered the ball near the byline and sent a low cross into the goal box. Savoy stepped up and blasted a shot into an open net. Jenkins recorded her third assist of the season.
MSU held the lead until Andrews scored her third goal of the year for Oklahoma Christian. Mueller registered her second assist of the season.
Oklahoma Christian outshot MSU, 19-7, but the Mustangs put four shots on goal, and the Eagles had just three shots on frame.
Freshman goalkeeper
Allison Dellis started for Midwestern State and made two saves. Dellis is 0-0-2 with a 0.93 goals against average and a .714 save percentage after two starts for the Mustangs, who are 5-3-4 overall and 2-2-2 in conference play.
Freshman goalkeeper Breanna Wooten made three saves in her seventh start for Oklahoma Christian, which is 4-2-5 overall this season and 0-2-4 in Lone Star Conference matches.
Midwestern State returns to Stang Park on Saturday to battle the Texas A&M International Dustdevils. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
