WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- McKenna Jenkins scored her second goal of the season.
Allison Dellis made 11 saves in the third start of her career, and Midwestern State finished in a 1-1 draw against visiting Texas A&M International at Stang Park on Saturday afternoon.
Against the run of play in the 21st minute, Jenkins scored into an empty net as the Dustdevils had a breakdown in the back, and goalkeeper Fabiana Solano left the goal unattended. The Mustangs took advantage and held the lead until the opening minute of the second half.
A foul in the penalty area was called against
Maya Warrior a mere 37 seconds into the second half. Lucia Cuadra capitalized from the penalty spot with a low shot to the left side of the net as the Dustdevils pulled even.
Midwestern State spent much of the day in its own territory. TAMIU outshot the Mustangs, 31-6, and 15 of those shots were on frame. The Dustdevils had eight corner kicks, and MSU finished the match with three corner kicks.
Lexi Jackson replaced an injured Dellis in the final 21 minutes and made three saves for the Mustangs, who are 5-3-5 with a 2-2-3 record in the Lone Star Conference.
Jenkins was also forced to leave the game with an injury in the final 10 minutes.
Krysan St. Louis threatened to give TAMIU the lead in the 88th minute, but Jackson made a save to preserve the draw. An ensuing corner kick appeared to create an opportunity for the Dustdevils, but the offsides flag went up.
Marta Forne got off a shot in the final minute, but the Mustangs withstood the late pressure to preserve the draw.
St. Louis took seven shots, and Cuadra finished with six shots for TAMIU, which is 4-3-5 overall and 2-2-3 in the LSC this season.
Goalkeeper Fabiana Solano made two saves for the Dustdevils, who are 0-6-3 all-time against Midwestern State but have played three consecutive draws in the series.
The Mustangs have played three consecutive 1-1 draws against St. Edward's, Oklahoma Christian and TAMIU. MSU will visit the UTPB Turf Field for an LSC match on Wednesday. Kickoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. in Odessa, Texas.
