THORNTON, Colo. -- Midwestern State leaned on its three freshmen Monday in the season opening Swan Memorial played at the par-72, 5,997-yard Todd Creek Golf Club.

And the Mustangs might have got more than they were hoping for coming with a second-place team standing heading into the final round of play. MSU fired team totals of 309 and 301 for a 34-over total of 610 through 36 holes.

Frosh Tristan Gabbard took hold of the individual lead in her opening collegiate round. The Fulshear native carded birdies on a pair of par-5s and added another on a par-3 to close the round with a 1-under 71.

Gabbard was even through the Front Nine in the second round before faltering down the stretch to finish with a 5-over 77. She closed the first day tied for fourth with a 4-over total of 148 just two strokes behind Biola's Madison Voisard (78-68) and Fort Hays State's Morgan Brasser (73-73) for the tournament lead.

Freshman Kodi Nolen battled her way to an opening round 79 (+7), then finished the second 18 on a high note with birdies on three of the last seven hole to finish a 2-over 74. The Midlothian native is set for ninth with a 9-over total of 153.

Freshman Alli Reily used a run of three consecutive birdies on the Back Nine to close with a team-low, even-par 72 in the second round. The Pottsboro native displayed resilience with the run following an 82 in the opening to tie for 15th with a 10-over total of 154.

Senior Beatrice Perucchini fired a pair of team countable scores carding a 79 and 78 to tie for 28th with a 13-over total of 157, while sophomore Brecklyn Flanagan (80-81) tied for 45th with a 17-over 161.

Colorado Christian takes a 12-stroke lead into the final round. The Cougars totaled scores of 305 and 293 for a 22-over 598.

The final round of the Swan Memorial begins with a shotgun start Tuesday at a 9 a.m. (Central Time).
