WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State's Jake Doggett is among five finalist for the 2022 Division II Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award as released Friday morning.

The winner will be announced on June 5 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio and presented by the award namesake Jack Nicklaus during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday.

The other four finalist include Beck Burnett of Lee (Tenn.), Charles Delong of Grand Valley State (Mich.), A.J. Eward of Barry (Fla.), and Austin Fulton of West Georgia.

Doggett set a program record by winning five tournaments this season and will take a 69.97 season stroke average and No. 3 GolfStat national ranking into the NCAA Division II Championships next week at TPC Michigan in Dearborn.

Doggett posted par-or-better scores in 20 of his 23 competition rounds this spring including 11 in the 60s. For the season, he boasts 27 par-or-better scores in 37 rounds including 17 in the 60s. His 96.9 finish percentage is also the best in school history.

Doggett is a two-time GCAA/PING All American, a two-time Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and was the 2021 LSC individual champion.

He also became the first Midwestern State golfer selected to represent the United States in the prestigious Arnold Palmer Cup which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland in July.

The two-time member of the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll is working toward a Master's of Business Administration degree.

All five finalists are competing in the NCAA Division II Championships.

Nicklaus, a Big Ten and NCAA Champion at Ohio State, helped inspire and create the Jack Nicklaus Award in 1988. The award is now presented to the National Player of the Year in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, as well as the NAIA and NJCAA.
