Gomez, Perucchini earn LSC Postseason honors

Garrett named to LSC All-Academic Team

GLEN ROSE, Texas -- Midwestern State's Juanita Gomez became the first student-athlete in program history to earn Lone Star Conference postseason honors in five consecutive season Wednesday night.

The senior from Medellin, Colombia garnered second-team mention for the third time in her career gaining first-team accolades in 2020 and honorable mention as a freshman in 2018. She was also a second-teamer in 2019 and 2021.

Gomez was one of three MSU student-athlete to garner honors as junior Beatrice Perucchini gained honorable and sophomore Mason Garrett was named to the LSC All-Academic Team.

Gomez leads the Mustangs with a 75.41 stroke average this season boasting five par-or-better rounds including a season low of 69. She claimed her second and third collegiate wins taking the Oklahoma Intercollegiate in the fall and the Midwestern State Invitational in the spring.

She owns Top 10 finishes in five of her nine tournaments while posting a finish percentage of 82.8.

Gomez tops MSU career charts with a 76.02 stroke average with 202 birdies, while ranking second with 87 counting scores.

Perucchini posted a career-low stroke average of 76.64 this season posting par-or-better scores in 22 competition rounds over nine tournaments.

The native of Varese, Italy claimed her first collegiate win at the Nick Turner Invitational carding matching scores of 71 to finish with a 2-under total of 142 at the Arroyo Del Oso Golf Course in Albuquerque on Oct. 18-19, 2021.

Garrett earned LSC All-Academic honors by posting a 4.00 grade-point average majoring in Sport & Leisure studies. The graduate of Chapel Hill High School in Mt. Pleasant is three-time member of the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

She posted a stroke average of 78.58 over five tournaments and 12 competition rounds this season finishing eighth at The Swan Memorial on Sept. 13-14, 2021 at Todd Creek Golf Club in Thornton, Colorado.

Midwestern State begins play in the Lone Star Conference Championships with two continuous rounds Thursday at Squaw Valley Golf Course.
