Midwestern State rolls past Oklahoma Christian in LSC medal match semifinals

GLEN ROSE, Texas -- Midwestern State continued its superb play Tuesday afternoon rolling past Oklahoma Christian -- 4-1 -- in the semifinal round of medal match play at the Lone Star Conference Championships.

The Mustangs move on to play West Texas A&M in the medal match finals Wednesday morning at Squaw Valley Golf Course with an opportunity to claim a fourth LSC men's golf title.

After setting school records with a 34-under team total of 830 through 54 holes to win stroke play, MSU left little doubt against the Eagles.

Junior Garrett Leek fired a 4-under 68 to beat Oklahoma Christian's Exequiel Rodriguez by three strokes in the opening matchup.

The Eagles leveled the score at 1-1 when Andres Brictson fired an even-par 72 to beat Midwestern State sophomore Ethen Wolf by three strokes.

Wolf was coming off of an exceptional performance during stroke finishing 18th carding scores of 75, 67 and 69 for a 5-under tally of 211.

Junior Jake Leatherwood pulled the Mustangs to within one win of the clinch with an even-par 72. He was able outlast Alejandro Armijo by a pair of strokes.

Mason Mikeska put in a brilliant performance to seal the victory for the Mustangs. The junior fired a 5-under 67 to beat Oskari Nikku by five strokes and put MSU up 3-1.

Senior Jake Doggett polished off another low score matching Mikeska with another 5-under 67 to beat Oklahoma Christian's No. 1 bag -- Mateo Pulcini by three strokes.

Doggett, who was named the LSC Championships all-tournament earlier in the afternoon, notched his third round in the 60s after finishing in a tie for fifth during stroke play.

Midwestern State would have posted a third consecutive sub-280 team score during match play with a 14-under 274.

West Texas A&M dominated Cameron 4-1 in other semifinal.

The LSC Championships medal match final begins at 8 a.m.
