BULLARD, Texas -- Midwestern State held on for its second team win of the season claiming a co-championship Tuesday afternoon in the King-Alfred Invitational at Eagle's Bluff Country Club.

The Mustangs fired an 8-over team total of 292 in the final round to finish in a tie with UT Tyler with an 18-over, 54-hole total of 870 just one stroke in front of third-place Texas A&M-Commerce.

The Mustangs claimed the stroke play championship on the second playoff hole.

"We never adjusted to the greens," MSU coach Jeff Ray said. "UT Tyler played really well. You have to give them credit. We just never started making the putts that we normally make. It was a good team win."

In medal match play, UT Tyler edged in the Oklahoma Christian in the final round, while Texas A&M-Commerce took third place with a win over Midwestern State.

Midwestern State senior Jake Doggett extended his run of par-or-better scores to 10 consecutive rounds going 71, 69 and 71 for a 2-under total of 211.

But it wasn't enough to hold of Texas A&M International's Mauricio Figueroa, who carded seven birdies on his way to a tournament low 66 in the final round to edge Doggett by a stroke. The sophomore marked scores of 73 and 71 for a 3-under total of 210.

It was Doggett's seventh career runner-up finish as he came just shy of claiming his seventh collegiate win and fifth of the season. Doggett has posted 19 par-or-better scores in 26 tournament rounds this season.

Doggett carded a team-high 13 birdies and topped the field going 3-under par on the course's 12 par-4 holes.

Junior Garrett Leek fired scores of 70, 73 and 73 for a 3-over 216 to earn his 17th collegiate Top 10 finish and fourth of the season tying for seventh. He ranked amongst tournament leaders going even-par on the course's four par-3 holes on his way to eight birdies.

Sophomore Ethen Wolf tied for 15th with an 8-over 221 logging scores of 74, 74 and 73, while junior Jake Leatherwood tied for 18th with an 8-over 222 firing tallies of 73, 74 and 75.

Junior Mason Mikeska (80-78-77) placed 38th with a 22-over 235.

Midwestern State competes in the RJGA Palm Valley Classic at the Palm Valley Golf Club on April 4-5 in Goodyear, Ariz.
