TROPHY CLUB, Texas -- Jake Doggett put on another show before play was suspended Monday afternoon in the Texas A&M-Commerce Lion Invitational at The Trophy Club's Hogan Course.

The senior from Hutto carded 11 birdies over 32 holes before severe weather moved into the metroplex. Five of those came in the opening round as he posted his ninth round in the 60s of the season with a 68.

Doggett then responded to a rare bogey on the Par-3, 158-yard Hole No. 3 by peeling off four straight birdies in the second round. He tacked on two more on the Back Nine to go to 8-under to control a four-stroke lead over Western New Mexico's Adam Samnegard and Arkansas Tech's Francois Jacob.

"Goodness, here Jake goes again," MSU coach Jeff Ray said. "He is in that zone with golf right now. He is a great off the tee and really good on the green. A lot of golfers can hit for distance, but he hits a lot of shots at 3/4 speed and controls the spin on the ball."

If Doggett can hold on for the win, he will match Derek Oland's season record of four tournament wins in a single season set in 2013-14. Oland claimed his fourth win in his 12th tournament that season, while Doggett is playing in his eighth.

Midwestern State is tied for fourth on the team leaderboard after posting a 297 in the opening round and is an overall 13-over as a team through 32 holes.

The Mustangs trail Arkansas Tech (-3), Southwestern Oklahoma State (+10) and Cameron (+11).

Junior Jake Leatherwood is tied for 15th at 2-over through 31 holes, while junior Garrett Leek is tied for 28th at 6-over through 31 holes.

Freshman Ethen Wolf (+13 through 31) is tied for 62nd, while junior Mason Mikeska (+16 through 31) is tied for 74th.

The tournament resumes Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. with the players continuing into the final round.

The weather forecast calls for increasing clouds with high of 54 degrees. The winds will be out of the north-northwest at 20-30 mph with gusts of 40.
