Midwestern State battles Lady Buffs in Canyon

CANYON, Texas -- Midwestern State resumes its season following the Christmas break with a road trip to face No. 17 West Texas A&M at First United Bank Center. Tipoff is scheduled for Friday at 5:30 p.m.

LAST MEETING | Midwestern State held West Texas A&M to 20 percent shooting from the field (15 of 75), and the Mustangs snapped the Lady Buffs' five-game winning streak with a 61-49 victory at D.L. Ligon Coliseum last season. Frances King had 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block in the victory. Hannah Reynolds had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Mustangs, who led 28-15 at halftime and outscored WT in the third quarter, 20-13. MSU shot 41.2 percent (21 of 51) from the field and led by 24 points during the fourth quarter. Mustangs finished the night with nine blocks and nine steals.

LAST TIME OUT | Freshman forward Dyamon Griggs posted her second consecutive double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and senior forward Mandy Withey finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds — both career highs — as Midwestern State coasted to an 83-43 victory over a shorthanded and undersized Dallas Christian team Monday night at D.L Ligon Coliseum. Natalie Stice scored in double figures for the sixth consecutive game, finishing with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting overall. She was 2 of 5 from 3-point range. Stice had a career-high five blocks for the Mustangs, who finished with 10 blocks in the victory. Dallas Christian only had six players available for the game, and did not have a player that stood taller than 5-6. Midwestern State scored a season-high 83 points, surpassing the 82 it scored in a double-overtime victory against St. Mary's on Dec. 12.
