Pando leads Mustangs to fifth-place showing at LSC Championships

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State's Ella Pando continued to build on a strong freshman campaign Saturday morning in the Lone Star Conference Championships at the River Creek Golf Course.

For the second during her short career, the Weatherford native led MSU narrowly missing out on all-league honors by finishing 20th with a 6,000-meter time of 23:29.80.

Pando finished as one of MSU's top two harriers in two of her four meets this season also leading MSU to a team win while finishing fourth overall in last month's Mustang Derby -- also ran on the site of the LSC Championships.

The Mustangs flexed quality depth producing a 42-second gap time between the first and final countable performances amassing 144 points to finish fifth behind Dallas Baptist (33), West Texas A&M (44), Oklahoma Christian (116), and St. Edward's (130).

Senior Elizabeth Butzke placed 26th with a time of 23:40.20 to extend her streak of team countable performances to 15, while fifth-year senior Alexandra Feller produced her highest career postseason finish taking 30th with a time of 23:53.70.

Sophomore Nathalia Escontrias continued to come on strong by delivering her fourth straight countable performance finishing 32nd overall with a time of 23:57.90, while freshman Mariana Sanchez placed 37th with a time of 24:11.00.

Freshmen Jayden Dangerfield Moore (24:12.30) and Rosalene Reyes Perez (24:44.80) placed 39th and 47th, respectively, as MSU's spacing runners.

Junior Sydney MacDonald (24:57.30) and freshman Cori Morgan (24:57.50) placed 60th and 61st, respectively, while Lula Nolen (25:39.00) finished 78th.

Morgan, who was tabbed LSC Freshman of the Week after finishing runner-up at the Cameron Aggie Duels in September, made her return from injury missing MSU's previous two meets.

West Texas A&M's Florance Uwajeneza claimed top individual honors completing the 6K loop in 20:50.90.

Midwestern State competes in the NCAA Division II South Central Region on Nov. 19 at Washington Park in Denver.
