WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State was trailing 61-45 with 7:22 remaining in the game, but the Mustangs rallied to get within one point of East Central (Okla.) with 1:09 to play. ECU senior guard Izzy Cummins hit a 3-pointer from the left corner with 46 seconds remaining, and the Tigers made four free throws in the final 22 seconds to pull out a 70-62 victory in the final game of the Ashbrook Classic at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.

East Central went on a 13-0 run and raced out to an 18-4 lead in the first quarter. The Mustangs were 5 of 20 from the field in the first quarter and 0 of 6 from 3-point range.
Sheridan Bostic hit a 3-point shot with 7:28 remaining in the second quarter to bring the Mustangs within two points, 22-20, but MSU trailed at halftime, 33-26.
Ashlyn Evans-Thompson scored 11 of her 18 points in the second half, when she was 4 of 5 from the field for the Tigers.
Midwestern State outrebounded East Central, 48-36, including 24 offensive rebounds that led to 27 second-chance points.
East Central scored 12 points on the fast break, and the Mustangs scored only two points in transition.
