COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Midwestern State found its rhythm on the offensive end to take an 80-72 win over UC Colorado Springs Saturday night at Gallogly Events Center.
The Mustangs (1-1) shook off a sluggish start to shoot 53.7 percent from the field over the final three quarters in a game that featured 70 fouls.
Junior guard
Kennedi Green paced MSU with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting with two 3-pointers, while sophomore
Yasmine Sifaoui added 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting in just six minutes of court time.
Senior
Sheridan Bostic ignited a 10-0 run with a 3-pointer from the left corner before Green hit a runner in the lane. The Mustangs finished off the run with free throws to take a 36-25 lead with 4:29 remaining in the first half.
The Mustangs led by as many as 14 points in the second half using a balanced scoring attack.
Senior guard
Eternity Jackson scored all nine of her points from the free throw line, while starters
Jordan Mathis, and
Natalie Stice both joined Bostic also chipping in nine points each.
Senior
Mandy Withey added seven points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while
Maya Kendall booked seven points, as well.
Sophomore Amyah Moore Allen poured in 21 points and added five rebounds to lead the Mountain Lions, who fell to 0-2 on the season.
Midwestern State hosts the Ashbrook Classic next weekend at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Mustangs take on Southeastern Oklahoma State Friday night at 6 before facing East Central (Okla.) Saturday afternoon at 4.
