DALLAS -- Midwestern State's
Madison Brown fired a 2-under 70 in the final round of the West Regional Preview guiding the Mustangs to a fifth-place showing at the Golf Club of Dallas.
The junior transfer from Kemp tied for 10th in MSU debut after carding scores of 75 and 73 for a 54-hole, 2-over total of 218.
Brown's efforts helped the Mustangs to a fifth-place showing as MSU improved its team total each round with a 305, 295 and 294 to finish with a 30-over, 54-hole total of 894.
"We were really had a good team effort," MSU coach
Jeff Ray said. "We are still young and getting better. This was a really good finish for us. I am really proud of the girls. We had great opportunities this fall with some good regional and national fields. We are talented enough and the best way to learn is to get in there and get after it."
The Mustangs opened the fall with a runner-up finish at The Swan Memorial in Colorado, then was 11th in the nationally competitive field at the DBU Classic.
"We finish fifth, but we really didn't have our best day," Ray said. "We didn't finish particularly great, but we were over a very difficult stretch of holes."
Brown recorded three birdies in a four-hole stretch going back-to-back on a pair of par-4s on Hole Nos. 10 and 11 before getting the par-3, 150-yard 13th hole. She finished the round with a fourth birdie on the par-4, 380-yard Hole No. 4 for her first par-or-better round of the season.
Senior
Beatrice Perucchini bounced back from a pair of 80s on opening day to card 1-over 73 in the third round to finish in a tie for 45th with a 17-over total of 233.
Freshman
Tristan Gabbard continued her impressive start tying for 16th with scores of 77, 70 and 74 for a 5-over total of 221.
Fellow frosh
Kodi Nolen tied for 36th with scores of 77, 76 and 77 for a 14-over total of 230, while sophomore
Brecklyn Flanagan tied for 43rd with tallies of 76, 76 and 80 for a 16-over total of 232.
Sophomore
Makenna Henry tied for 36th while competing as an individual medalist only. The Sour Lake native fired sored of 77, 79 and 74 for a 14-over total of 230.
Dallas Baptist (858/-6) claimed the team title by 12 strokes over West Texas A&M (870/+6). The Lady Buffs were trailed by Biola (890/+26), Oklahoma Christian (893/+29), and MSU.
Midwestern State closes the fall schedule with the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday at the Lawton Country Club.
