ALBUQUERQUE -- Jake Doggett led a second-round resurgence Monday afternoon in the RJGA South Central Shootout at the University of New Mexico's Championship Course.

The senior from Hutto, Texas fired a 4-under 68 to jump into a tie for seventh on the individual leaderboard with a 1-under, 36-hole total of 143 after carding a 75 in the opening round.

"It was a beautiful day to play golf," MSU assistant coach Brad Corley said. "The course was very demanding. The rough was higher and fairways were a bit wet as they are preparing for a Division I tournament next week."

Doggett's effort allowed the Mustangs to improve by eight strokes to move into a tie for fourth logging team totals of 296 and 288 for an 8-over 584.

MSU is knotted with Texas A&M-Commerce, but trail Colorado State-Pueblo (569 / -7), Western New Mexico (577 / +1) and Colorado Christian (582 / +6).

Doggett's 19th collegiate score in the 60s pulled him to within four shots of Colorado State-Pueblo's Matt Miller (71-68 139/-5) and Colorado Christian's Adam Duncan (69-70 139/-5) at the top of the individual leaderboard.

"It was a great round on this course especially where they had the pins," Corley said. "Local knowledge would have helped out today."

Junior Garrett Leek tied for 17th marking tallies of 72 and 73 for a 1-over 145, while junior Jake Leatherwood carded scores of 73 and 74 for a 3-over 147 to tie for 28th.

Senior Keiton Hoster fired a 76 and 75 to tie for 44th with a 7-over 151 in his 2021-22 season debut.

Junior Mason Mikeska recovered from an opening round 79 for a 73 in the second round to tie for 50th with an 8-over 152.

The final round of the RJGA South Central Shootout begins with a shotgun start Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. (Central Time).
