BULLARD, Texas -- Peyton Lewis leaped into the Midwestern State record book Saturday afternoon in the UT Tyler Ice Breaker at the Brook Hill School Track.
The sophomore from Garland took fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 34 feet, 1.5 inches in her first outdoor try in the event. Lewis also the MSU's top indoor mark in the triple jump going 35 feet, 8.5 inches in the 2020 Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships.
Lewis also improved to second on the program's all-time chart with a long jump of 16 feet, 4.5 inches which was good enough for eighth, while freshman
Emily Hurst improved to 4 feet, 9.5 inches in the high jump to take sixth.
Freshman
Shakiah Randall continued to impress by taking seventh in the 200-meter dash despite head wind with a season-best time of 26.45, while sophomore
Asia Robertson took ninth with a time of 26.84.
Sophomore
Taylor Carr took a ninth-place finish with a personal best time of 1:00.86 in the 400-meter dash, while Robertson (12.83),
Aaryanna Williams (12.95) and
Paitlyn Davis (13.24) turned in wind aided times in the 100-meter preliminaries.
Williams (27.72) and Davis (27.80) also finished 23rd and 24th against a head wind in the 200-meter dash.
Senior
Katie Till claimed fourth in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:20.68, while
Gemma Gonzalez paced season-best time of 2:21.12 to take fifth ahead of teammates
Brayleigh McGill (2:32.73/12th),
Kenzee Talamantez (2:36.76/18th),
Michelle Estrada (2:42.88/26th) and
Victoria Rosas (2:48.23/29th).
Senior
Amerhyst Woolf led the Mustangs' distance effort by claiming fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:32.35, while sophomore
Elizabeth Butzke (20:19.50) and sophomore
Alexandra Feller (20:32.77) finished 13th and 15th, respectively.
McGill led MSU efforts in the 1,500-meter run finishing 22nd with a time of 5:15.41. She was followed by Butzke (5:15.85/24th),
Christyn Smith (5:21.36/36th), Rosas (5:23.25/37th), Estrada (5:24.55/39th),
Delaney Locke (5:27.06/40th) and
Katy Pfile (5:49.97/54th).
Randall, Carr, Till and Gonzalez combined to place third in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:07.68.
Midwestern State competes in the West Texas A&M Spring Break Classic Friday at Buffalo Sports Park in Canyon.
