ABILENE, Texas -- Shakiah Randall took second in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes to lead Midwestern State efforts Saturday afternoon in the outdoor season opening Hardin-Simmons Invitational at the Grape Street Track Complex.
The freshman from Fort Worth turned in the third best time in program history to finish runner-up in the 100-meter dash with a 12.64. The time was the fastest for an MSU runner since Elaine Staindam and Carolyn Brown ran a 12.38 and 12.43, respectively, back in 1989.
Randall also finished runner-up with the third-best 200-meter time in program history clocking a 26.47 just off
April Pena's record pace of 25.07 set in 2019.
MSU's sprinters took their turn to shine with
Taylor Carr taking fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.84 followed by
Aaryanna Williams (6th/13.00) and
Paitlyn Davis (18th/13.80).
Carr also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a 27.25 finishing just ahead of
Aaryanna Williams, who clocked the same time. Davis was 17th (28.93) and
Peyton Lewis was 21st (29.55).
Senior
Katie Till continued her stellar spring setting a PR with a 1,500-meter time of 4:57.44 to take second, while junior
Victoria Rosas was 22nd with a time of 5:40.45.

Gemma Gonzalez paced a 2:25.09 in the 800-meter run to finish second chased by freshman
Brayleigh McGill (5th/2:32.34), sophomore
Elizabeth Butzke (9th/2:35.92) and senior
Michelle Estrada (15th/2:45.22).
Senior
Amerhyst Woolf placed second in her first collegiate attempt at the 10,000-meter distance with a time of 40:11.56 placing behind MSU coach
Kelsey Bruce, who won the race as an unattached runner with a time of 35:22.91.
Sophomore
Alexandra Feller finished sixth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 43:31.45, while senior
Delaney Locke was seventh with a time of 43:44.72.
Sophomore
Christyn Smith ran fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 21:35.99.
Randall, Gonzalez, Till and Carr combined to take third in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:13.36, while the team of McGill, Williams, Butzke and
Asia Robertson was fifth clocking a 4:37.06.
Freshman
Emily Hurst paced third in the high jump with a mark of 4 feet, 7 inches, while sophomore
Peyton Lewis was 14th in the long jump leaping 13 feet, 3 1/2 inches.
