DUNCAN, Okla. -- Midwestern State's Jake Leatherwood continued his stellar run in the opening 36 holes of The Hrnciar Invitational Monday at The Territory Golf Course.

The junior from Snyder logged his fourth and fifth consecutive par-or-better scores posting a 71 and 72 for a 1-under total of 143 to stand second heading into Tuesday's final round.

Leatherwood will have to make up six strokes on tournament leading Tripp Wallace of Texas A&M-Commerce. Wallace carded scores of 69 and 69 for a 7-under 137.

The Mustangs continued to receive quality scores from the top three position in the lineup with senior Jake Doggett scoring a 73 and 74 for a 3-over 147 to tie for eighth just a stroke ahead of teammate Garrett Leek, who logged tallies of 74 and 74 to tie for 10th.

The trio carried MSU into a tie for third place through two rounds with team tallies of 298 and 294 for a 16-over 592.

"The first round we didn't get a quality fourth score and the second round we didn't really have that great round we needed," MSU coach Jeff Ray said. "Any time you are within 10 strokes, you have a chance especially with this group. We have the depth on this team to go really low. We have several guys on the second team that do really well, too. It's a great opportunity to get tournament experience."

The Mustangs trail Oklahoma Christian (294-289 583/+7) by nine strokes, Texas A&M-Commerce (300-285 585/+9) by seven strokes and are tied with Cameron (294-298 592/+16).

Senior Keiton Hoster (82-74 156 / +12) and freshman Ryan Hailey (80-77 157/+13) tied for 42nd and 44th, respectively, to round out the results for Midwestern's top team.

Sophomore J.T. Boyd led effort for the second team logging scores of 75 and 74 to tie for 14th with a 5-over total of 149, while sophomore Tyler Kenyon (78-75) logged nine birdies and led the field going 5-under on the par-5s on the way to tying for 26th with a 9-over total of 153.

Sophomore Ethen Wolf (75-79) tied for 31st with a 10-over total of 154, while junior Mason Mikeska (78-77) tied for 35th with an 11-over 155.

Sophomore Lane Garcia (78-80) tied for 48th with a 14-over 158 to help the second team place eighth on the team leaderboard with tallies of 306 and 305 for a 35-over total of 611.

Sophomore Keaton Dickens (77-75) tied for 24th with an 8-over 152, while sophomore Ethan Sanchez (76-82) tied for 48th with a 14-over 158 competing as individual medalists only.
