WICHITA FALLS, Texas – After an impressive opening weekend, No. 15 Midwestern State gets their first chance to compete in front of the home fans on Friday afternoon against No. 2 Tyler Junior College. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
SERIES HISTORY
Tyler Junior College leads the all-time series 4-2 but the Mustangs won the most recent matchup, edging the Apaches 4-3 in 2019.
RAMIREZ ROLLING
Ashley Ramirez opened the new season with a pair of victories at the number three line. The senior cruised to straight set victories over Kristina McDermott (Collin College) and Lindy Carpenter (Harding).
4-0 QUARTET
In addition to Ramirez,
Emilija Visic (number four line),
Juliette Mary (number five line), and
Emilija Segetlija (number six line) opened the season 2-0. MSU Texas posted a 10-2 mark in singles action in earning victories over Collin College and Harding.
STARTING STRONG
For the second straight season and third time in the last four years, MSU Texas is 2-0. The lone exception came in 2018, when the Mustangs lost their first three matches, including two against ranked opponents.
HOME SWEET HOME
Since the start of the 2013 season, the Mustangs have posted an incredible 64-11 record at the MSU Tennis Center. Last season, MSU Texas posted the most wins at home in program history, finishing 13-2.
SCOUTING THE FIELD
Tyler Junior College enters Friday's matchup at 2-0 on the season after hammering Lone Star Conference opponent Tarleton State, 6-1. The Apaches opened the season by edging LSC member Angelo State, 4-3. Last season, Tyler Junior College finished tied for second at the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships. The Apaches posted an 11-3 record and return two from last year's squad in Julie Khamula and Summer Yardley.
CATCHING UP WITH COACH LINN
Scott Linn enters his 10th season at the helm of the Midwestern State men's and women's tennis teams. Since arriving in the fall of 2010, Linn coached teams have made 15 total NCAA Tournament appearances.

The Mustangs hit the courts on January 13 when they host Cowley County Community College (Kansas). First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
