SHAWNEE, Okla. -- Michelle Estrada placed second in her first attempt in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase as Midwestern State set nine personal best Thursday in the Oklahoma Baptist Early Invitational at the Hurt Athletic Complex.
 
The sophomore from El Paso paced a 12:15.00 to finish behind Cameron's Edna Cheptum (11:54.24) to land 10th on MSU Texas' all-time performance list, while junior Katy Pfile placed fourth with another personal best time of 12:57.76.
 
Junior Maria Puente placed sixth in the tightly packed fast heat of the 1,500-meter run finishing with a PR of 5:05.44 finishing ahead of junior Mercy Yermo (5:15.00/9th), senior Sabrina DeSantiago (5:17.62 (PR)/13th), sophomore Delaney Locke (5:20.90 (PR)/16th) and freshman Victoria Rosas (5:24.54 (PR)/21st).
 
DeSantiago (2:35.10/11th) and Puente (2:38.25) also set personal bests in the 800-meter dash, while senior April Pena placed eighth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.87.
 
Sophomore Hannah Ponder improved her school record in the hammer throw by nearly seven feet finishing sixth overall with a fling of 118 feet. She set her previous top mark of 111 feet, 2 inches in the 2018 Lone Star Conference Championships.
 
Ponder also placed sixth in the discus throw with a distance of 110 feet and 3 inches.
 
Midwestern State next competes in UTA's Bobby Lane Invitational on March 23 at Maverick Stadium in Arlington.
