WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Senior Maddy Coffman punched her ticket to the semifinals of the main draw on day two of the ITA South Central Region Championships Saturday. In the men's doubles main draw, Ben Westwick and Alberto Diaz upset the region's top-seeded team to advance to the finals on Sunday.
 
With wins on Sunday, Coffman, Westwick and Diaz will represent the Mustangs at the ITA Cup in Rome, Ga., on Oct. 11-14
 
Coffman took down St. Edward's Paola Carpio in a three-set thriller, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, in the Round of 16 before downing Angelo State's No. 7 seed Ena Ovcina, 6-1, 6-2. The Flower Mound native meets Cameron's Zhenia Shviadok in the semifinals on Sunday at 8 a.m. The two met three times last season with Coffman winning twice in three sets.
 
After sending four teams to the quarterfinals with an impressive first day at the regional championships, MSU Texas' duo of Ben Westwick and Alberto Diaz along with the pair of Denney Norrie and Alex Martinez Roca moved into the semifinals. Westwick and Diaz defeated fifth-seeded Daniel Llorente and Joey Tscherne of Metro State, 8-6. Norrie and Martinez Roca moved past Mesa's Alain De La Bastide and Lucas Martin, 8-2. The duo advanced to the finals against Cameron's Julen Gutierrez and Vinicius Santos with an upset of top-seeded Popovich and Gonzalez, 6-3, 6-7, 10-6.
 
In the women's singles consolation draw, Ashley Ramirez and Lea Cizeron claimed wins in the Round of 16 before falling in the quarterfinals. Ramirez bested Colorado Mesa's Georgia Hansen, 6-4, 6-0, but slipped against Taylor Leslie of Dallas Baptist, 3-6, 6-4, 10-2. Cizeron outed UT Permian Basin's Maria Briones, 6-3, 6-1, before being knocked out by Newman's Vlada Litvinova, 6-3, 6-4.
 
The MSU Texas trio on the men's side all bowed out in the Round of 16. Eighth-seeded Dillon Pineda suffered a 6-3, 6-3 defeat at the hands of Liam Fraboulet of Western New Mexico, No. 10 seed Angel Palacios dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to Luis Diaz Argente of St. Edward's and 12^th-seeded Nolan McCaig fell to SEU's Anish Sriniketh, 7-6, 7-6.
 
Yaswanth Mylavarapu and Alberto Diaz continued their push through the consolation bracket with a pair of victories Saturday. Mylavarapu upset No. 4 seed Thomas Pudney of Colorado State-Pueblo, 6-4, 7-6 (7) and Vinicio Hadlich of UT Tyler, 6-4, 6-1. Alberto Diaz bested WNMU's David Vallez, 7-6 (3), 6-3, and Alvar De La Mano of UTT, 7-6, 6-2.
 
Mylavarapu meets top-seeded Raul Stevens (UTPB) while Diaz faces off with SEU's Andre Mercado on Sunday at 8 a.m
 
The No. 2 seed of Pineda and McCaig dropped a tight 9-7 decision to Cameron's Julen Gutierrez and Vinicius Santos while Bojan Popovic and Jeremiah Gonzalez defeated Jean Muniz and Angel Palacios, 8-6.
 
In the women's doubles consolation bracket, Greta Lazzarotto and Cizeron moved into the semifinals with an 8-2 win over WNMU's Kaycie Cormier and Christine Roerick. The tandem of Juliette Mary and Taylor Gray suffered an 8-6 setback to SEU's Paola Carpio and Kate Malzonia.
 
Lazzarotto and Cizeron moved into Sunday's finals with an 8-3 win over St. Mary's Abby Csengery and Ashley Penshorn. The duo meets Paola Carpio and Kate Malazonia of SEU.
