Alberto Diaz continue their quest for a national championship this weekend at the ITA Cup in Rome, Ga., hosted by the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College. Men's doubles first round action begins on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. with the semifinals slated for 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
The pair meets Washburn's Alejandro Valarezo Plaza and Paul Haase, the tournament's No. 2 seed.
The tandem eliminated three of the top five seeds in the ITA South Central Regional Championship, including the No. 1 overall seed. Westwick and Diaz earned the berth in the Cup with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Cameron's Julen Gutierrez and Vinicius Santos.
Westwick and Diaz are the first men's doubles team to advance to the ITA Cup. Previously, Maddy Coffman and Bianca Duff made an appearance on the women's side in 2017, earning a fifth place finish.
Ramon Toyos boasts the highest finish by any MSU Texas player, earning fourth in 2016 while Kayla Casey and Kyle Davidson took seventh and eighth in their respective singles draws in 2014.
Following the ITA Cup, the Mustangs return to the court in the spring to begin dual season.
