WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State (8-3) is No. 19 among NCAA Division II programs in the latest ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. The Mustangs won their last four dual matches and are playing the top-ranked junior college, Tyler JC, before opening conference play on April 3.
West Florida is ranked No. 1 and defeated the Mustangs earlier this season, 6-1. The other two losses for Midwestern State came against No. 8-ranked Washburn and No. 32-ranked Nebraska-Kearney.
The Mustangs have wins over No. 29-ranked Auburn Montgomery and No. 41-ranked Harding.
The Lone Star Conference has four teams among the top 50 in the nation. UT Tyler (11-3) is ranked No. 7, and Lubbock Christian (6-3) is ranked No. 14. Midwestern State visits the Chaparrals in the conference opener on April 3. Cameron (10-3) won its last four dual matches and is ranked No. 31.
Germano Setti is ranked No. 16 in singles with a 14-4 record, including the matches he played in the fall. The senior from Brazil is 7-2 at No. 1 singles for the Mustangs during the dual match season.
Kelly Giese of Lubbock Christian is 14-2, and he is the highest-ranked singles player in the LSC at No. 4, while Lukas Janousek of Cameron is ranked No. 8. The conference has nine players ranked in the top 50.
Yan Kodjoed of Barry is 18-1 and ranked No. 1 followed by Diego Duran and Sebastian Rondon of West Florida.
Juan David Duque and
Bruno Sanchez are No. 27 in the doubles' rankings with an 8-7 record since October, but Sanchez has played the last four dual matches with
Cesar Loeches Llamas, and Duque is playing alongside
Jose Marquez.
Rondon and Duran, who defeated Duque and Sanchez earlier this season, are the No. 1 doubles pairing.
