WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State closes out a six-match homestand Friday and Saturday with its final regular season home matches of the 2017 campaign at the MSU Tennis Center.
The Mustangs play host to Collin College (Texas) in an 11 a.m. match Friday before taking on Seward County (Kan.) at 4 p.m. Midwestern State concludes the week against Southern Nazarene (Okla.) in its home finale Saturday with first serve at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
- Midwestern State coasted to its third sweep of the season with a 9-0 victory over No. 43 Dallas Baptist at the MSU Tennis Center
- The Mustangs recorded straight-set wins on five courts en route to their seventh-straight victory while improving to 7-0 at home
MSU COMES IN AT NO. 2 IN FIRST SET OF NCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS
- Midwestern State appeared at No. 2 in the first set of South Central Region rankings released by the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Committee Wednesday afternoon
- The 15th-ranked Mustangs come in behind No. 12 St. Mary's while appearing in front of No. 43 Dallas Baptist, Tarleton State and Metro State (Colo.)
- The top four teams from the region will advance to the NCAA Tournament with the top two teams serving as hosts for opening round action May 1-2 at their campus sites
- Two teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA Championship site to compete for a national title, May 10-13, at the Sanlando Park Tennis Center in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
MUSTANGS CLIMB TO 15TH IN NATIONAL POLL
- The Mustangs achieved their fourth-highest national ranking in program history on Mar. 22, jumping six spots to No. 15 in the Oracle/ITA Women's Division II national poll
- The top-15 ranking is the fourth for the program in the last three seasons, earning a program-best ranking of 13th at the conclusion of the 2015 season that included a trip to the NCAA Elite Eight and back-to-back rankings of No. 14 during the 2015 season
A LOOK AT THE MUSTANGS
- Midwestern State enters the weekend with a 13-3 overall record and sits atop the Lone Star Conference standings with Cameron at 2-0
- MSU sports three players in the top 10 in the regional singles rankings in
Daria Panferova (5th),
Bianca Duff (7th) and
Eirini Kontaki (9th)
- At the No. 1 position, Panferova boasts a 10-6 record with a team-best six wins over regionally-ranked players this season
- Duff carries an 11-5 mark on the season including a 10-2 record at No. 3 singles with two wins against the region's top-20 players
- Kontaki has won nine of her last 11 matches, sporting an 11-4 overall record playing at line two for the Mustangs
- The Mustangs have been near unstoppable at the bottom of the lineup as of late with all three players carrying at least a six-match win streak

Maddy Coffman comes in having won her last nine matches with a team-best 13-3 record playing at No. 4 to earn LSC Player of the Week honors this week

Greta Lazzarotto has won seven in a row for a 12-3 record, going 8-1 on court five

Ashley Ramirez has posted a 9-4 mark playing at No. 6 singles in her first collegiate season, winning her last six matches
- Coffman and Duff are off to the best doubles start in program history with an unblemished 16-0 record now playing at the top position
- On court three, Lazzarotto and Ramirez have won seven straight for a 14-2 record while Panferova and
Amy Clifton are winners of four in a row for a 9-4 mark at No. 2
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
- Collin College comes in with an 11-9 record with Friday's match against Midwestern State being its third against a NCAA Division II opponent this season
- The Cougars are ranked 13th in the Oracle/ITA NJCAA rankings and fourth in Region II
- Alexandria Gilbert carries a 6-9 record at No. 1 singles to rank 20th in the national rankings while Jayme Waites is 9-10 for the Cougars on court two to rank 41st nationally
- In doubles, Gilbert and Brittany Bennett are 5-3 at No. 1 doubles to rank 16th in the country
INSIDE THE SERIES
- Midwestern State holds a 5-1 record against Collin College since the series began in 1997
- The Mustangs have won the last four matchups including a 7-2 victory last season in Wichita Falls
- Collin recorded its lone win in the series in 1998 with a 5-3 win at home

- Midwestern State is a perfect 3-0 against Seward County with meetings in 1991, 1995 and 2016
- The Mustangs have surrendered just two points to the Lady Saints in the series with 8-1 wins in 1995 and 2016 along with a 6-0 win in 1991

- Southern Nazarene is 2-9 on the season, having lost its last five matches coming into Saturday's matchup with the Mustangs
