Mustangs drop extra-inning pitcher's duel to Cameron, 1-0

LAWTON, Okla. – Cameron earned its second-straight walk-off win over Midwestern State in game one of Saturday's doubleheader with designated hitter Paige Daino hitting an RBI double to left field to propel the Aggies to a 1-0 eight-inning triumph over the Mustangs.

A one-out double to left field for first baseman Sonora Zukerman placed a runner in scoring position for Cameron (31-17, 16-11 LSC) to lead up to Daino's hit to break open a scoreless game in the bottom of the eighth. Zukerman led the Aggies with two hits on the day.

Midwestern State (26-25, 11-16 LSC) put a runner in scoring position with no outs in the seventh after junior shortstop Tammy Viliamu led off the inning with a walk. Pinch runner Jennifer Quintero stole second on the ensuing at bat before a double play ended the threat for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs loaded the bases with no outs in the second inning with sophomore catcher Amanda Thomas and junior left fielder Taylor Bermudes reaching base with walks while freshman right fielder Makenzi Harris singled to short. The Aggies were able to escape with a pair of force outs at home and a popup to end the frame.

Cameron also put three runners on in the bottom half of the inning thanks to two infield errors by the MSU defense and a walk with two outs. However, junior pitcher Erin Knox tallied her second strikeout of the game on center fielder Nikki Horton to keep it a scoreless contest through two innings.

Knox (8-7) suffered the loss despite a strong performance in the circle, allowing five hits and a pair of walks while matching a career-high seven strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work. At the plate, Harris led the Mustangs with two hits.

Emily Wasinger (16-7) earned the win for the Aggies, giving up three hits and six walks with five strikeouts.
