LUBBOCK, Texas – After a scoreless five innings, the Lubbock Christian bats came alive in the sixth with a seven-run frame to propel the Lady Chaps to a 7-2 win over Midwestern State Saturday afternoon at LCU's Lady Chaps Invitational.
Lubbock Christian (4-0) erased a 1-0 deficit in the bottom half of the sixth after sophomore catcher
Amanda Thomas had just put Midwestern State (2-2) ahead 1-0 with a solo shot to left center.
The Lady Chaps registered five hits in the inning while making the most of two MSU errors as just three of LCU's runs were earned in the contest. After the Lady Chaps scored their first run on an MSU error, a pair of singles sandwiched around a wild pitch plated three more runs for LCU in the inning. The Lady Chaps capped off their scoring spurt with their fourth single of the frame and a double to bring home an additional three scores.
A two-out double by freshman second baseman
Misty Muniz plated a second run for the Mustangs in the seventh inning but MSU would be unable to put together a late rally in the 7-2 defeat.
Muniz, Thomas and freshman right fielder
Taylor Mordecai each registered one hit for the Mustangs. Redshirt freshman pitcher
Peyton Helton (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters.
Junior pitcher Katera Eltsosie (3-0) earned the win in the circle for LCU with six strikeouts while giving up two runs on three hits and a walk. Sophomore designated hitter Sydney Beuthien led the Lady Chaps with two hits.
Midwestern State wraps up the Lady Chaps Invitational tomorrow with an 11 a.m. rematch against No. 21 Regis (Colo.).
