ON THE COURT
Midwestern State takes on Eastern New Mexico in a Lone Star Conference contest Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
 
SCOUTING THE ZIAS
- Eastern New Mexico had its two-game winning streak snapped by falling to Cameron 68-63 Wednesday night in Portales.
- Each of the Zias' four Lone Star Conference wins has come in sweeps over Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State.
- Junior guard Sarah Stinnett erupted for 37 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field while going 14-of-22 from the free throw line Saturday against Angelo State. She completed her first double-double of the season by pulling down 10 rebounds.
- Stinnett leads the Zias' attack scoring 13.0 points per game while scoring 10-or-more points in 14 games this season.
- Senior forward Tori Tucker splashes in 12.1 points per game while shooting at a 36.8-percent clip from the 3-point line. She has scored in double figures 13 times this season including a campaign high of 25 against Western New Mexico.
- Junior guard Jordyn Cooper connected on four 3-pointers to finish with a team high 17 points off of the bench Wednesday against Cameron. She is averaging 7.1 points per game while knocking down shots at a 37.6-percent clip from beyond the arc.
- Josh Prock has posted a 13-33 record (.283) in his second season at the helm of the Eastern New Mexico women's basketball program. He posted an impressive 108-31 record (.777) in five seasons at Howard Payne (Texas) prior to making the jump to Portales.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
- Midwestern State and Eastern New Mexico meet for the 42nd time on the hardwood Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
- The Mustangs own a 24-17 edge in the series which dates back to the 1985-86 season.
- MSU has won the last five meetings between the teams and nine of the last 10 dating back to the 2010-11 season.
- Eastern New Mexico's lone win during the run came by a 70-62 count on Dec. 31, 2012 in Portales.
- MSU is 13-7 all time against the Zias at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
- The Mustangs have won the last four meeting between the programs played in Wichita Falls and seven of the last eight. ENMU's last win at Ligon Coliseum came by a 51-49 score on Feb. 13, 2010.
 
LAST TIME OUT VS. EASTERN NEW MEXICO
-Senior forward Andrea Carter led a pack of four Midwestern State players in double figures with 15 points and eight rebounds to lead the Mustangs to a 72-46 win over Eastern New Mexico on Jan. 11 in Portales.
- Senior forward Shambreka Jones (10 points, nine rebounds) and senior guard Shatoia Gober (10 points, eight rebounds) narrowly missed double-doubles while senior guard Dianna Jones had 10 points and dished out three assists.
- Freshman guard Whitney Taylor knocked down two 3-pointers to finish with a season-high eight points off of the bench.
- ENMU's Sarah Stinnett poured in a game-high 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds to pace the Zias.
 
MUSTANGS NOTEBOOK
- Midwestern State had its five-game winning streak snapped Wednesday night at West Texas A&M.
- The Mustangs faced their largest deficit of the season at 19 points Wednesday at West Texas A&M before closing to within one point of the 6th-ranked Lady Buffs twice in the second half.
- MSU has faced double-digit deficits four times this season taking losses in three of them.
- Midwestern State is 18-0 when it scores 60-or-more points this season and 0-4 when it nets less than 60.
- Senior guard Shatoia Gober (Waco, Texas / Midway HS) scored in double figures for the second consecutive game going for 12 points and four rebounds Wednesday at West Texas A&M.
- Senior forward Andrea Carter (Angleton, Texas / Angleton HS) just missed her 10th double-double of the season finishing with nine points and 10 rebounds. The game snapped a 10-game stretch that Carter had scored at least 10 points.
- Senior forward Shambreka Jones (Mesquite, Texas / Poteet HS (Charleston Southern)) notched her eighth double-figure effort of the season going for 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
- Senior guard Janae McJunkins (Wagoner, Okla. / Wagoner HS (Murray State)) buried three second-half triples to finishing with nine points, three rebounds and three assists against West Texas A&M.
 
THE JOHNSON ERA
- Noel Johnson is in her seventh season at the helm of the Midwestern State basketball program.
- Johnson boasts a 108-81 record (.571) while leading the Mustangs to the NCAA Division II postseason in each of the last two seasons including a trip to the South Central Region finals in 2013.
- Johnson reached milestone victory No. 100 with a 61-47 win over Texas Woman's University on Jan. 1, 2015 in Denton.
- Midwestern claimed its first NCAA postseason tournament wins taking down Tarleton State and Metro State (Colo.) in 2013 before falling to No. 4 Colorado Mesa in the regional final.
- Johnson led the Mustangs to its first Lone Star Conference championship in 12 seasons claiming the 2012-13 title.
- Johnson garnered Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2012 before earning Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' Small College Coach of the Year accolades in 2013.
