FOR STARTERS
Midwestern State travels away from D.L. Ligon Coliseum for the first time this season for Texas Woman's Marriott Champions Circle Pioneer Premiere Saturday and Sunday at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton. The Mustangs first square off against Colorado State-Pueblo in a 2 p.m. tipoff Saturday before they look to seek a little revenge from last season's NCAA Tournament loss to Colorado Christian Sunday at 2 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
– Freshman forward McKenna Villegas drained a baseline jumper as time expired to lift Midwestern State to its first win of the season Wednesday over Texas Wesleyan, 57-55
– The Mustangs jumped out to an 11-4 advantage late in the first period before the Lady Rams claimed a 29-26 halftime lead thanks to a 19-point second quarter
– TWU matched its largest lead of the game at five at the end of the third quarter before MSU answered with a 5-0 run with nine minutes to play
– After TWU's Katelynn Threats missed a layup, junior guard Jacquar Westbrooks found Villegas in the corner for the buzzer-beating jumper
– Villegas recorded 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting while sophomore guard Whitney Taylor added 11 points for the Mustangs
 
SCOUTING THE THUNDERWOLVES
– Colorado State – Pueblo is 1-1 on the season with a win over Lone Star Conference opponent Texas A&M-Commerce and a loss to No. 23 Lubbock Christian (Texas)
– The Thunderwolves are coming off a NCAA Tournament appearance, falling to conference foe Colorado-Colorado Springs, 73-61, in the first round
– Freshman post Molly Rohrer leads the Thunderwolves with 12.5 points and 2.0 blocks, shooting 50 percent from the field, while sophomore guard Tuileisu Anderson is adding 11.5 points a game for the Thunderwolves offense
– Freshman forward Lauren Heyn leads CSU-P on the glass with 9.5 rebounds per game
– Jim Turgeon is in his first season at CSU-Pueblo following eight seasons at Iowa Western Community College
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
– The series between Midwestern State and Colorado State – Pueblo is deadlocked at 1-1
– The Mustangs were victorious in the last meeting with a 70-57 win at the Adams State Bankers Classic on Nov. 8, 2013
– CSU-P came away with a 62-56 overtime win in the first meeting between the two teams on Nov. 24, 2006

SCOUTING THE LADY COUGARS
– Colorado Christian is 1-1 in the early season with a win over NAIA Johnson & Wales (Colo.) and a loss to NCAA Division I Idaho State
– In exhibition play, CCU defeated Division I Northern Colorado on the road, 61-58
– CCU returns four starters from last season's NCAA second round team that went 19-14 with a RMAC Tournament title
– Senior forward Kate Louthan leads the Lady Cougars with a team-best 13.0 points per game while adding 7.5 boards and 4.5 assists
– Junior forward Claire Paxton is averaging 10.0 points a contest in just under 18 minutes of action
– Senior guard Taylor Torres is adding 9.5 points and a team-high 5.0 assists while sophomore post Ali Meyer leads the Lady Cougars with 10.5 boards per game
– Head coach Tim Hays is in his eighth season at CCU
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
– Midwestern State and Colorado Christian squared off for the first time in the 2015 NCAA Tournament with the Lady Cougars coming away with a 67-57 win
 
A LOOK AT THE MUSTANGS
– Midwestern State is 1-2 on the season following opening weekend losses to Rogers State (Okla.) and St. Mary's (Texas) at MSU's Ashbrook Classic and the win over Texas Wesleyan earlier this week
– Sophomore guard Whitney Taylor leads the Mustangs with 9.3 points while freshman forward McKenna Villegas has paced the Mustangs offense the last two games for an average of 9.0 points per game
– Villegas recorded a season-high 14 points in the win over TWU, and is shooting 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the floor this season
– Freshman forward Kendriana Washington is averaging a team-high 6.3 rebounds with Villegas contributing 5.3 per game
 
MUSTANGS THIRD IN LSC PRESEASON POLL
– Midwestern State was tabbed third in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll, voted on by the league's coaches, sports information directors and media representatives
– The Mustangs totaled 157 points behind preseason favorite West Texas A&M (220) and Texas Woman's (171)
– West Texas A&M collected 23 of the 25 first place votes while Texas Woman's and Cameron each tallied one vote
– The Mustangs went 12-4 to earn the No. 2 seed in the LSC postseason tournament last season
 
THE JOHNSON ERA
– Noel Johnson enters her eighth season at the helm of the Mustangs women's basketball program
– Johnson has led MSU to a 113-84 record (.574) with four-straight winning seasons and three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances
– During Johnson's tenure, the Mustangs claimed their first NCAA Tournament wins in 2013 with victories over rival Tarleton State and Metro State (Colo.) before falling to No. 4 Colorado Mesa in the regional final
– That season, Johnson guided the Maroon and Gold to a 26-6 record, the second-most wins in school history, and a Lone Star Conference Championship, the first in 12 seasons
– Johnson garnered Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2012 before earning Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' Small College Coach of the Year accolades in 2013
 
LOOKING AHEAD
– Midwestern State returns home Tuesday for its final contest before the Thanksgiving break with a 5:30 p.m. tipoff vs. Southern Nazarene (Okla.)
