ABOUT THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State hosts ACU for game two of a four-game homestand, the season's longest, while in the midst of an 11-game win streak.

The 11-game streak is the longest winning streak this season and is the second longest in MSU history.  MSU is alone in first place in the Lone Star Conference, a game in front of Abilene Christian and one-and-a half ahead of Tarleton State in the standings.

Midwestern received votes this week in the WBCA's USA Today Sports Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll released on Tuesday, the first in five reporting weeks.  MSU jumped up with 24 points and sit five away from climbing into the poll for a second time this season.

The Mustangs are paced by the powerful duo of junior Kirsti Degelia and sophomore Andrea Carter.

Degelia, who was the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week after chalking up a career-high 27 points against Tarleton State, leads the Mustangs offensively. The honorable mention All-Lone Star Conference performer a season ago is a junior from Denton, Texas/Krum is third in the LSC in scoring with 15.7 points a game (85th in Division II), and is third in the league with 3.5 assists a contest while grabbing 4.3 rebounds a game.

Carter picked up the LSC Defensive Player of the Week award for the fourth time this week to go with the LSC Offensive Player of the Week award she has also collected earlier this season.  She has posted 11 double-doubles in 21 games this season (11th in Division II).  The sophomore from Angleton is second on the team and ninth in the LSC with a 12.4 scoring average, while standing third in the LSC with a 50.8 field goal percentage (95-of-187).  She leads the squad, is second in the LSC and 20th nationally with 10.2 rebounds and is second in the conference with 2.4 steals a contest (80th in Division II).

Sophomore Shatoia Gober of Waco, Texas/Midway contributes 9.5 points a contest to go with her 5.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals an outing.  She is also shooting 47.9 percent from the floor (81-of-169).

MSU is averaging 68.9 points with 39.6 rebounds a game.  The Mustangs allow opponents 58.3 points a contest.

The Mustangs women are in their annual Play 4 Kay/Cancer Awareness week this week.

Corresponding with the same week of the WBCA's sponsored campaign honoring the late North Carolina State coach Kay Yow, the Mustangs will don pink uniforms (donated by Texas Oncology) for games at Ligon Coliseum Feb. 9, 13 and 16.

Fans have the opportunity to place silent auction bids to purchase the uniforms, along with other selected items, with the proceeds being donated to fund cancer research.

It's the third year MSU has supported this effort.
