SCOUTING THE WAR HAWKS
McMurry comes into the game with a 1-5 record, 1-1 in the Heartland Conference, after dropping a 59-58 heartbreaker at home to Arkansas-Fort Smith. Coach Veronica Snow's War Hawks are led by senior forward Keisha Collins of Midland, Texas who's averaging 17.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 1.2 assists a game. Collins' 107 points is one-third of the War Hawks 319 points on the season. Sophomore guard Sierra Maykus of Southlake, Texas/Carroll adds 8.2 points a game, while connecting on 1.7 3-point field goals a game, and senior guard Tory Salazar of Houston, Texas/Jersey Village adds 7.2 points, with 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 assist an outing. McMurry is averaging 53.2 points a contest, while allowing opponents 63.0 points a game.
ABOUT THE SERIES
This is the ninth meeting between Midwestern State and McMurry with MSU holding an 8-0 series advantage. The Mustangs won the last game between the teams a season ago in Wichita Falls, 79-58 on Nov. 9, 2012. It's MSU's first trip to McMurry 23 years, when MSU downed McMurry 88-51 on Jan. 17, 1990.

Midwestern State opened the 2012-13 season against the War Hawks with a 79-58 victory at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Mustangs' Andrea Carter became the first MSU player in nine years to record a 20-20 contest with her 20 points and career-high 20 rebounds on her way to earning both offensive and defensive player of the week honors from the Lone Star Conference. Shatoia Gober just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Kirsti Degelia added 13 points and Dianna Jones dished out six assists. McMurry's Keshia Collins was the War Hawks lone double-digit scorer with 11 points and five rebounds.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State is at 3-3 on the season. Coach Noel Johnson's Mustangs started the season at number 10, but early season troubles have scuttled the ranking. The Mustangs are led by All-America junior forward Andrea Carter who is averaging 14.2 points and 7.3 rebounds with 1.5 steals and 1.0 assists per game. Senior guard Kirsti Degelia adds 10.0 points with 1.3 three-pointers a game, to go with 2.7 assists and 1.2 steals. Junior guard Dianna Jones adds 10.0 points a game to go with her 4.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.87 assist-turnover ratio. Junior guard Lisa Hampton adds 8.3 points, hitting 1.8 treys a contest, with junior guard Shatoia Gober chalks up 8.0 points a contest, as she pulls down 4.7 rebounds with 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals. MSU averages 70.7 points a contest, while allowing 72.3.
LAST TIME OUT
The Mustangs were clobbered by fourth ranked Emporia State 77-55 on Saturday at White Auditorium in Emporia, Kan. MSU overcame a quick 9-2 deficit to take a 12-10 lead, then got plowed under by an 18-3 avalance by the Hornets just before the half and could never recover. Dianna Jones was the only double-digit scorer for Midwestern State with 16 points to go with her game-high four steals. Andrea Carter added nine points. MSU was outrebounded 39-22 by ESU, while shooting 43.9 percent from the floor (18-of-41) and allowing ESU to shoot 50.0 percent (30-of-60)
MSU UNDER NOEL JOHNSON
Noel Johnson is 75-68 in her sixth year as the head coach of the Mustangs. She was the Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year in 2012 after turning the program around with a 19-8 season, then earned the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Small College Coach of the Year award for leading MSU to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 with a 26-6 record and the Lone Star Conference Championship.
MSU IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Midwestern State started the season at number 10 in the WBCA's USA Today Sports Division II Top 25, but two early losses dropped them to the first team receiving votes last week. It was the 19th time MSU has received votes in the WBCA poll. The new poll will come out sometime on Tuesday.

The Mustangs were held to their lowest scoring output of the season with 55 points, just the second time this season that MSU has scored under 70 points…MSU has two road games in the next week, on Tuesday at McMurry and on Sunday at Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) before playing a home again on Thursday, Dec. 5 to open Lone Star Conference play with Texas Woman's at D.L. Ligon Coliseum…Midwestern is being outrebounded an average of 6.8 boards a game (30.7 to 37.5). MSU hasn't been outrebounded in a season since the 2007-08 campaign…MSU's defense has paced the Mustangs on a +4.8 turnover margin (12.3 giveaways per game to 17.2 takeaways)…Junior forward Andrea Carter of Angleton, Texas, scored nine points against Emporia to snap her string of double figure scoring games at five this season.
