Midwestern State plays for outright possession of second place in the Lone Star Conference and the number two seed in the LSC Tournament Wednesday night against West Texas A&M.
MSU is 18-6 overall, 14-4 in LSC action after Saturday's 59-54 loss to Texas Woman's in Denton. West Texas A&M knocked off LSC leader Tarleton State 58-52 in Canyon on Saturday.
Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State is tied with WT for second place in the Lone Star Conference race, two games behind Tarleton State. The Mustangs lost their last two games, the first time they have dropped consecutive games since November. They have secured a berth to the Lone Star Conference Tournament in Allen, their first tournament appearance since 2003, and will take the No. 2 seed with a win or get the No. 3 seed with a loss against West Texas A&M.
MSU boasts a pair of double-figure scorers this season led by senior guard Savannah Carver, a two-time LSC Offensive Player of the Week.
The Amarillo native ranks thid in the LSC with 15.7 points per game while connecting on 1.7 3-pointers a contest.
Sophomore guard Kirsti Degelia scores 11.6 points a contest, while shooting 44.4 percent from the floor and adding 4.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists.
Freshman Dianna Jones tallies 9.2 points a game for the Mustangs. She is connecting on a just under 1.0 treys an outing and was the leader Lone Star Conference in 3-point percentage, nailing 48.8 percent (20-41), but has dipped below 1.000 makes a game. The Waco Midway High product pitches in 1.6 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.
Senior forward Cierra Thompson adds 8.6 points and 6.0 rebounds.
Senior forward Jazman Patterson, LSC Defensive Player of the Week on Jan. 24, adds 6.1 rebounds a game to go with her 7.4 points and 49.2 percent shooting from the floor.
MSU leads the Lone Star Conference averaging 73.7 points and is third in the league with 41.0 rebounds a game. The Mustangs allow opponents 65.9 points a contest.
ABOUT THE LADY BUFFS
West Texas A&M enters the game with a 16-8 overall record, 14-4 in Lone Star Conference play. The Lady Buffs have won seven straight and eight of their last nine games and just like MSU can still claim a share of the LSC title if Tarleton State loses twice this week.
Kenisha Harris leads the team by averaging 14.6 points with 5.3 rebounds a contest. The 5-10 sophomore also adds 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals an outing while shooting 47.1 percent from the floor and blocking 14 shots.
Devin Griffin collects 13.1 points and leads the team with 5.6 rebounds a game. The 5-10 sophomore averages 2.5 assists with 1.4 steals, shoots 46.7 percent and has 22 blocks (0.9 per game) this season.
Joni Unruh is averaging 10.3 points a contest. The 5-10 senior pulls in 4.3 rebounds an outing to go with her 3.4 assists and 3.0 steals a game, while shooting 44.8 percent from the floor.
Ashley Leven adds another 8.8 points and 5.2 rebounds a game to go with her 21 blocks (0.9 per game).
WT is averaging 69.8 points a game, while allowing the opposition 59.2 a contest.
ABOUT THE SERIES
Midwestern State faces West Texas A&M for the 53rd time on Wednesday when the teams square off at the First United Bank Center.
MSU trails the Lady Buffs 13-39 in the series that started in the 1976-77 season. WT holds a 21-3 advantage in games in Canyon, with an 8-1 series lead in games at the FUBC. WT leads 17-8 in games at Ligon , but MSU holds a 2-1 record in contests at unknown sites.
MSU has won two of the last three meetings against the Lady Buffs, both in Wichita Falls including the 88-76 win on Jan. 11. The Mustangs 62-57 win on Jan. 29, 2011 snapped a 13-game losing streak to WT.
WT won the last meeting in Canyon on Feb. 19, 2011 by a 75-59 score.
The last time MSU beat WT in Canyon was on Feb. 13, 2003 with a 78-71 triumph.
