ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
Midwestern State is off to its best start in a dozen years. MSU is at 4-0 for the first time since 2000 when it opened the 2000-01 season with a 4-0 start on the way to a 23-7 season and a Lone Star Conference Championship.
The Mustangs are paced by the powerful duo of junior Kirsti Degelia and sophomore Andrea Carter.
Degelia leads the Mustangs offensively. The junior from Denton, Texas/Krum is scoring 16.5 points a game, and averages 4.3 assists a contest and is second on the team with 5.5 rebounds a game.
Carter, who has won the LSC Defensive Player of the Week award twice this year and the LSC Offensive Player of the Week award once, has posted three double-doubles in four games to open the season. The sophomore from Angleton is second on the team with a 15.0 scoring average, leads the squad with 12.8 rebounds and 4.3 steals a contest.
Sophomore Diana Jones of Hewitt, Texas/Midweay may be averaging just 5.8 points a game, but she has 3.8 assists and has nailed 5-of-12 three point attempts (.417) to go with her 1.8 steals a contest.
Midwestern State is receiving votes once again in the WBCA's ESPN/USA Today Division II Coaches Poll. It's the second week this season for the Mustangs who received votes for five consecutive weeks in January and February last season.
MSU is averaging 73.0 points with 43.2 rebounds a game. The Mustangs allow opponents 57.8 points a contest.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Incarnate Word stands at 3-2 on the season, coming off a huge 11-point, 65-54 win at cross-town rival St. Mary's, who is receiving votes in the WBCA's ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. However, the Cardinals haven't played in over a week and are 0-1 at home.
The Cardinals are under the command of veteran coach Angela Lawson, who directed the team to the Lone Star Conference Tournament final last season.
The Cards are paced by the play of newcomer Lauren McKinney of Arlington, Texas/Bowie., a transfer from Kilgore Junior College. She's averaging 12.8 points a game, to go with 5.2 rebounds a contest.
Junior Iffy Mora of Arlington, Texas/Bowie, an honorable mention All-LSC performer last season, adds 10.6 points with 5.2 boards an outing.
The Cardinals average 62.2 points a game, while allowing 60.0.
