Setting the Stage

About the Mustangs

Midwestern State coach Grant McCasland said he believed the Mustangs are getting better every time out and took a step forward in their LSC Championship opening win over Texas A&M-Commerce Thursday night.

The senior tandem of Chris Hagan and David Terrellcombined for 50 points as the Mustangs rolled to a convincing 82-67 win over the Lions despite an ugly 18-of-38 showing (47.4 percent) from the charity stripe.

Terrell slammed down eight dunks on his to a career-high 24 points and completed his fifth double-double of the season with 14 rebounds. He also added three blocked shots and three steals.

Hagan was held scoreless for the first 16 minutes of the contest after suffering ankle injury while spectating Terrell's first breakaway dunk of the night, but the LSC South Division Player of the Year recovered to fire in a game-high 26 points.

The Mustangs are looking for their 11th consecutive LSC Championship postseason tournament win and will gun for their sixth title game appearance with a win over the Texans.

About the Texans

Tarleton State hits the Lone Star Conference Championship semifinals on a roll as the Texans have won their last 10 games and 15 of their last 16.

The Texans are paced by senior guard Corin Henry, who averages 13.6 points and 4.3 assists per game.

It was Henry that hit a long 3-pointer and a jumper from the elbow in the final 90 seconds to lift the Texans to a 49-47 victory over MSU in their last meeting on Feb. 21 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Henry was named LSC South Defensive of the Year after helping the nation's No. 1 scoring defense to limit the opposition to 52.5 points a game. The Texans are also limiting the opposition to a 37.7 field goal percentage.

Tarleton's balanced scoring attack also features senior guard Devon Hills (7.5 points, 3.7 rebounds), junior forward Wes Dipprey (7.5 points, 6.0 rebounds) and junior forward Fabian Wilson (6.9 points, 2.9 rebounds as 10 Texans average 3-or-more points a game.

Tarleton is without the services of junior guard Carrington Tankson (9.3 points, 2.3 rebounds), who was suspended prior to the tournament. Tankson scored a season-high 28 points in the Texans' 69-56 win over MSU earlier this season in Stephenville.

TSU scored just 63.9 points a game during South Division play.

About the Series

Midwestern State and Tarleton State meet for the 59th time on the hardwood Saturday afternoon at Bruin Fieldhouse in Bartlesville, Okla.

The Mustangs own a commanding 39-19 edge in the series that dates back to the 1961-62 season, but Tarleton has claimed victories in each of the two meetings this season including a 68-56 victory on Feb. 5 at Wisdom Gym and took a 49-47 decision over the Mustangs on Feb. 21 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Prior to this season, MSU had claimed eight of the last 10 meetings between the program including all four matchups in 2009-10.

The Mustangs and Texans have split four meetings during LSC Championship tournament play. MSU has denied league titles to Tarleton in 1999 and 2010, while the Texans' victories have come in first round games in 2002 and 2004. This will be the first semifinal meeting.

Midwestern is 3-0 against Tarleton on neutral surfaces claiming wins at Fort Worth in 1964, Dallas in 1967 and in last season's LSC title game in Bartlesville.
