The teams were originally slated to play Wednesday night in Wichita Falls, but a severe winter storm forced the game to originally be postponed to Thursday then eventually to Feb. 21 when the teams will play the second game of the season series.

About the Mustangs

Midwestern State snapped a seven-year, 13-game skid against rival West Texas A&M last Saturday as the Mustangs rolled to a 62-57 victory over the Lady Buffs.

MSU will attempt to end a similar streak Saturday night against Tarleton State at Wisdom Gym.

The Texanns have won the last 10 games in the series and Midwestern hasn't produced a win in the series since upending TSU 80-74 on Jan. 5, 2005 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

So the Mustangs will have another chance to put another slug in a long streak.

Speaking of great endings to bad streaks, junior Savannah Carver came alive to pour in a career-high 24 points last week against West Texas A&M.

The 5-10 Canyon Randall High product connected on 6-of-13 shots from the field and was a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line to spur MSU on to victory.

She had scored a total of 10 points in her previous three games, but continues to be a catalyst for the Mustangs. Carver has now scored 20-or-more points five times this season.

MSU will also attempt to end another streak as the Mustangs are winless in nine games outside of Wichita Falls this season. Midwestern's last road win came against Incarnate Word in the final game of the 2009-10 season on Feb. 27, 2010 in San Antonio.

About the TexAnns

Tarleton State is on a roll.

The TexAnns matched a season-best six-game winning streak by rolling to an 81-61 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville last Saturday to improve to 9-1 this season at Wisdom Gym.

Junior Shelby Adamson is the catalyst for Tarleton. The 5-6 guard from Rockwall pours in 17.1 points and 3.9 assists per game and does it an aggressive manner.

Adamson gets to the free throw line 9.1 times per game and has connected on 80.5 percent of those attempts. She also shows aggression on the defensive end of the floor where 2.4 steals a contest.

Junior forward Morgan Stehling pitches in 10.4 points a game as either she or Adamson have paced the TexAnns in scoring in 14 of 18 games this season.

Four other TexAnns tally more than six points a contest including senior center Brittnie Haley (7.3 points, 5.1 rebounds), senior center Kelsey Benford (7.1 points, 6.2 rebounds), junior guard Tara Towns (6.7 points, 1.9 rebounds) and freshman center Kiara Wright (6.6 points, 7.1 rebounds).

Senior guard point guard Sonya Sundberg adds 5.5 points and 3.5 assists per game.

The TexAnns scored 71.6 points a game and permit 58.3.

About the Series

Midwestern State and Tarleton State meet for the 53rd occasion on the hardwood Saturday night at Wisdom Gym.

The Mustangs own a 29-23 edge in the series that dates back to the 1975-76 season, but the TexAnns have claimed the last 10 games of the series.

Former All-LSC performer Katherine Maples poured in 25 points and pulled down 11 rebounds while Adrian Fincher narrowly missed a triple double with 19 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists to lead MSU to its last win over Tarleton by an 80-74 count in double overtime on Jan. 6, 2005 in D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

It was MSU's eighth consecutive win over the TexAnns as it had won three straight contests in Stephenville with the last one coming by an 84-80 count on Dec. 2, 2003.

Even with their current struggles with the TexAnns, the Mustangs have fought to a 12-12 split in games at Wisdom Gym.

The 23rd-ranked TexAnns are the second ranked opponent Midwestern has faced the season.

The Mustangs extended then-No. 7 Northeastern State to double overtime before falling 82-77 on Jan. 6.

MSU has not defeated a nationally ranked opponent since downing No. 19 Angelo State 71-70 on Feb. 19, 2004 which includes 22 consecutive losses.
