Game Day: #21 Mustangs, #18 Bronchos meet in clash of division favorites

Setting the Stage

No. 21 Midwestern State and No. 18 Central Oklahoma meet in a clash of the favorites claim Lone Star Conference division championships in 2010-11.

The Mustangs carry a 12-game winning streak into the contest, while the Bronchos boast a 13-2 mark and have been victorious in their last 16 games at Hamilton Fieldhouse.

Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. or 25 minutes following the conclusion of the women's game which begins at 2.

About the Mustangs

Fresh off of its first trip to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, Midwestern State remains one of the hottest teams in the nation.

The Mustangs (12-1) are 43-4 under the guidance of second-year coach Grant McCasland and are the reigning two-time champions of the LSC.

Senior guard Chris Hagan continues to lead the LSC and is seventh in NCAA Division II in scoring at 24.2 points per game.

The Houston native who originally signed with Rice ranks among league leaders in field goal percentage (53.3 percent), 3-pointers per game (2.6), free throw percentage (80.6 percent) and assists per game (4.1).

Junior guard Michael Loyd, a transfer from BYU, has tallied 10-or-more points in each of his last five outings to pull his season averages to 13.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. He connects on better than two treys per game.

Junior David Terrell(7.4 points, 5.8 rebounds), junior Darrick Thomas (6.8 points, 6.0 rebounds), senior Charlie Logan (6.4 points, 3.9 rebounds) and Thomas Colbert (4.0 points, 5.1 rebounds) headline a very deep front court as the Mustangs boast a +8.0 rebound margin.

MSU has won its last 22 games against LSC North Division opponents.

About the Bronchos

Central Oklahoma is paced by preseason All America selection Dauntae Williams.

The 6-4 senior guard ranks second behind MSU's Chris Hagan amongst Lone Star Conference scoring leaders at 22.6 points per game.

Williams adds 5.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game and has led the Bronchos in scoring 10 times this season.

He is joined by a trio of double-digit scorers including junior guard Brent Friday (12.1 points, 5.1 rebounds), junior guard Tyler Phillips (11.5 points, 4.2 rebounds) and junior guard Shane Carroll (10.7 points, 3.1 rebounds).

The Bronchos pour in 9.3 treys per game as a team while connecting on 36.7 percent from beyond the arc.

UCO averages 83.8 points a game and allows 69.4.

About the Series

Midwestern State and Central Oklahoma meet for the 49th time on the hardwood Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Fieldhouse.

The Mustangs own a slim 26-22 in the series that dates back to 1948 including a 96-89 win last season on Dec. 3, 2009.

The teams have split the last eight meetings while the Bronchos have won the last three games played in Edmond.

Midwestern claimed its last win at Hamilton Fieldhouse by a 69-65 count on Feb. 2, 2002.
