How they got here

Midwestern State defeated Southwestern Oklahoma State in Wednesday night's opening round 77-65 before rallying from 14 points down in the second half to upend Northeastern State going away 74-64 in Friday night's semifinal.

Tarleton State survived an upset bid by Texas A&M-Commerce taking the Lions 83-76 in overtime. The Texans followed with an 82-68 semifinal victory over West Texas A&M.

MSU comes in as the South Division's No. 1 seed, while Tarleton is the South's No. 2.

A pair South Division teams will square off for the league title for the first time since West Texas A&M defeated Tarleton 92-85 in 2006 at Durant, Okla.

It's the sixth time two South Division squads will play for the championships since LSC went to the divisional format in 1997-98.

Mustangs in the championship game

Midwestern State goes for its fifth Lone Star Conference championship in just its fifth appearance in the league's title round.

No team has won as many titles since the LSC went to the divisional format starting with the 1997-98 season. West Texas A&M (2001, 2003) and Central Oklahoma (1998, 2008) have won two titles each.

MSU is only team to go back-to-back during the LSC's divisional era in 1999 and 2000. The Mustangs can repeat the feat with a win Saturday night.

Tarleton State is 1-4 in title games with the Texans lone championship coming in 2004.

About the Texans

Tarleton State has won six of its last seven games after dropping a pair of games to Midwestern State during rivalry week.

The Texans improved to 8-4 away from Wisdom Gym with its two wins this week at the Lone Star Conference championships.

Tarleton, which is 3-2 in three appearances in Bartlesville, is making its first title game appearance since falling 92-85 in the 2006 finals at Durant, Okla.

The Texans' balanced attack is led by junior guard Devon Hills who is just one of four Tarleton players scoring in double figures.

Hills scores 13.3 points per game and has connected on 40 of his 124 attempts from beyond the arc (32.3 percent) to go along with 4.1 rebounds a game.

Senior guard Effran Bryant adds 12.2 points a game on the strenght of 2.8 3-pointers a game. Bryant shoots 41 percent from 3-point range.

Junior point guard Corin Henry directs the Texans' attack with 11.7 points and 4.3 assists per game.

Senior forward Jeremiah Wilson is Tarleton's top inside threat at 10.5 points and 8.2 rebounds a game, while junior forward Donta Smith adds 7.9 points and 6.6 rebounds a contest.

Tarleton State scores 71.6 points a game and allow a stingy 58.6.

Who's hot

Senior guard Jason Ebie has proven to be the edge in No. 6 Midwestern State's most recent six-game winning streak.

The transfer from TCU is averaging 15.5 points a game during the stretch after netting a career-high 22 in Friday night's 74-64 victory over Northeastern State in the LSC semifinals.

Ebie is far more than just a scorer as he has dished out 6.5 assists and pulled in 5.7 rebounds a contest during the current winning streak.

In LSC tournament play, the Houston native has been credited with 10 assists and committed just three turnovers in 72 minutes of court time.

Senior forward Anthony Moore, a 2009 All-LSC Tournament selection, has turned it up again in Bartlesville.

The Reston, Va. native is averaging 13 points in his five games at Bruin Field House over the past two seasons while leading the Mustangs with 8.4 rebounds a contest.

Senior guard Craig Green cooled off with 11 points Friday night against Northeastern State to snap a five-game streak of 20-point performances.

The Keller native is still en fuego, howerver, as he is averaging 22.5 points and shooting 47.7 percent from the arc during MSU's six-game winning streak.

Junior guard Chris Hagan has scored at least 10 points in each of his last 13 games, while junior forward Charlie Logan, who has logged career high minutes in each of the last two games, in averaging 9.7 points and 6.7 rebounds a game over his last six contests.

About the series

Midwestern State and Tarleton State clash for the 55th time on the hardwood Saturday night at Bruin Field House in Bartlesville, Okla.

The Mustangs own a commanding 37-17 edge in the series which dates back to 1962 and have won six of the last eight against the Texans.

The teams have met in the LSC postseason three times with the Texans own a 2-1 edge, but MSU has claimed the only other championship meeting between the powerhouse programs by crowning Tarleton 78-62 on Feb. 27, 1999 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

This is the first neutral site confrontation between the schools on the hardwood in 42 years as MSU defeated the Texans 94-78 on Dec. 29, 1967 at the Cotton Bowl Classic in Dallas.

MSU in the Lone Star Conference Championships

Midwestern State owns the highest winning percentage in Lone Star Conference postseason tournament games by peeling off a 16-5 (.762) in now its 10th tournament appearance.

The Mustangs can claim its fifth LSC championship in its 10th appearance in the LSC Championships. Only West Texas A&M has claimed more tournament titles with six in 18 showings.

MSU has won its last eight games in the LSC Championships claiming titles in 2007 and 2009. The Mustangs missed the tournament in 2008.

Godwin in quest of third ring

Senior forward Michael Godwin can become a member of his third Lone Star Conference championship team if Midwestern is able to claim three wins this week at Bruin Field House.

Godwin was a true freshman when the Mustangs defeated Southeastern Oklahoma 89-80 for the league title in 2007 and a junior last season when MSU took Southwestern Oklahoma 66-60 in the championship game last season.

Central Oklahoma was the last team to win three titles in four seasons (1995, 1997, 1998), but no player was a member of the Bronchos for each of the titles.

Abilene Christian won three-straight titles from 1985-87, but a search of the through the LSC career basketball championship statistics yielded no player making appearances for the Wildcats in each of the three postseason appearances.

Godwin could be the first individual player to claim three titles.
