It was all about Chris Hagan's run at history as the Mustangs extended their winning streak to seven games with a 91-82 win over Cameron Monday night at Aggie Gym in Lawton, Okla.
Â
The senior guard from Houston erupted for a school-record 50 points, connecting on 17 of 26 shots from the field including eight 3-pointers and was 8-for-10 from the free-throw line while scoring 21 points in the first half and 29 in the second.
Â
The performance marked the first 50-point outing in the storied history of Midwestern State men's basketball and bettered a 48-year-old record of 46 points set originally by Roger Ellis against McMurry on Feb. 27, 1962 then matched by NAIA All American Earl Beechum versus Monmouth in a national tournament contest on March 8, 1966.
Â
The 50 points were the most in an NCAA men's basketball game this season topping Limestone guard Jarrell Douglass' 47-point effort Saturday against Catawba. Lehigh's C.J. McCollum and Connecticut's Kemba Walker have each scored 42 points in an NCAA Division I game while Defiance's Logan Wolfrum owns the top game in Division III with 42 points against Ohio Northern.
Â
Hagan's output was the most by a Lone Star Conference player since former Central Oklahoma standout Eddie Robinson poured in 52 points against Southwestern Oklahoma in 1999.
Â
It was also the first 50-point game in NCAA Division II since Wisconsin-Parkside's LaVontay Fenderson ripped the nets for 52 against St. Joseph's on Feb. 12, 2009.
Â
He set LSC season highs in points (50), field goals made (17), field goal attempts (26) and 3-point field goals made (8).
Â
Hagan has scored 20-or-more points in four of his last five games and is lighting it up against Lone Star Conference competition with a 28.8 points per game average while shooting 62 percent from the field (44-of-71) and 50 percent from the arc (15-of-30) over four games.
