About the Mustangs

Midwestern State will play its first true road game of the season Saturday afternoon at Rankin Williams Field house.

And that's just fine for a Grant McCasland coached squad as the Mustangs rolled to a 10-2 mark on hostile courts last season with setbacks coming at Angelo State and West Texas A&M.

The Mustangs have rebounded from a season opening 81-76 loss against No. 6 Fort Hays State on a neutral floor in Bartlesville, Okla. to win their last five games by an average of 28.2 points a game.

MSU has gotten defensive by yielding more than 60 points in just one contest during its current winning streak.

The Mustangs are limiting the opposition to 49.2 points a game and 35.7 percent from the field while outrebounding them by a 40.8 to 28.6 margin (+12.2 per game).

Senior guard Chris Hagan continues to lead the Mustangs in scoring at 20.8 points a game including three outings over 25 or more points.

About the Bulldogs

Southwestern Oklahoma has won seven of its last eight games and is coming off of a 76-63 upset of No. 12 Tarleton State Tuesday night to improve to a perfect 4-0 at Rankin Williams Field house.

The Bulldogs opened the season with a pair of losses to Newman (Kan.) and Fort Hays State at the South Central Region Challenge on Nov. 12 and 13 at Bruin Field house in Bartlesville.

Southwestern's lone setback since came by a 79-68 count at West Texas A&M.

The Bulldogs are paced by junior forward Leon Nelson who averaged 13.3 points and 4.3 rebounds a game who lead a quartet of SWOSU players in double figures including senior guard Jeremy Lay (12.7 points), senior forward Chancellor Jones (11.4 points, 5.1 rebounds) and senior guard Ross Moore (10.1 points).

Southwestern Oklahoma scores 76.4 points a game and allows 70.

About the Series

The Mustangs own a 30-17 edge in the series that dates back to 1947 and have won the last four matchups between the programs including regular season and LSC Championship wins in each of the last two seasons.

The Mustangs broke a four-game skid against Southwestern Oklahoma in Weatherford with a 77-67 victory on Jan. 10, 2009 last season.

The Bulldogs own a 10-8 all-time edge against MSU in games played in Weatherford.
