Yannetti, MSU comes back to earn sweep of Bulldogs in Game 2, 4-3

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State's Katie Petersen lined a run-scoring single into center field to lift the Mustangs to a come-from-behind 4-3 win in eight innings over Southwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday afternoon at Mustangs Park.

MSU rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the seventh when Maranda Bishop led off the frame with a double down the left-field line, then scored on Jessica Rodriguez' single to center field.

The Mustangs extended their winning streak to four games improved to 14-9 on the season and 3-1 in Lone Star Conference North Division play.

But MSU needed a another strong relief performance from Petersen and a pair of clutch defensive plays.

Petersen won her ninth-straight decision to improve to 10-2 with a scoreless eighth inning.

MSU starter Ashley Kuchenski kept the Mustangs in the contest by pitching seven quality allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out four and walking two, but did not factor in the decision.

Kuchenski came off the rubber to field a squeeze attempt by Keri Glidewell and her toss to Lindsey Voigt at the plate beat Teryn Mazurkewich, who broke from third base with the pitch.

Stacy Creger followed with ringing single to center field, but Bishop gunned down Falon Bradshaw at the plate trying to score from second.

Midwestern State knotted the game at 1-1 when sophomore Tabitha Yannetti roped a double down the left-line to score Lauren Craig, then took the lead in the third on Voigt's fifth homer of the season – a towering shot to left field.

Southwestern Oklahoma regained the lead with two runs in the fifth.

Yannetti paced a nine-hit MSU attack by going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, while Bishop and Rodriguez added two hits each.

The Mustangs return to action Wednesday afternoon when they play host to Texas Woman's University at Mustangs Park. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
