Kuchenski handcuffs Javelinas, MSU wins 2-1

DURANT, Okla. – Ashley Kuchenski delivered her second-straight quality start to lead Midwestern State to a 2-1 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville Sunday afternoon in the Lone Star Conference Crossover at the Multi-Sports Complex.

Kuchenski improved to 5-4 after limiting the Javelinas to one run on three hits while striking out five and walking one.

Kuchenski was unable to complete the bid for her first shutout of the season after Julia Canales' double to left field scored Shaun Bryant, who had reached on a one-out walk in the seventh inning.

Katie Petersen came on to retire the final two batters to notch her fourth save of the season.

The Mustangs scratched for a run in the third inning off of Texas A&M-Kingsville starter Jessika Cantu, who took the loss after limiting MSU to two runs on seven hits while striking out one and walking three.

Alyson Reynolds laced a run-scoring single up the middle to plate Kristen Stonecipher, who had started a two-out rally with a single to left field.

The Mustangs added a run in the top of the seventh when Voigt scored on Lauren Craig's single to center field to give Kuchenski much needed insurance moving into the bottom of the seventh.

With the win, the Mustangs improved to 26-15 on the season by claiming their third-straight win at the LSC Crossover.

Tabitha Yannetti paced the Mustangs' seven-hit attack by going 2-for-3.

Texas A&M-Kingsville fell to 19-22.
