DURANT, Okla. – Katie Petersen weaved a four-hit shutout and
Maranda Bishop put it away with a two-run homer as Midwestern State closed the Lone Star Conference Crossover with four-straight wins after claiming a 4-0 victory over Abilene Christian Sunday afternoon at the Multi-Sports Complex.
Petersen limited the Wildcats to four hits while delivering her seventh shutout of the season to improve to 18-4 on the season.
The sophomore from Plano struck out two and walked none. She also delivered an RBI-single while going 1-for-3 at the plate.
The Mustangs, who improved to 27-15, continues LSC North Division play Wednesday afternoon against Cameron at Mustangs Park. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
Alyson Reynolds turned in a spectacular effort in her second start of the season in right field.
She robbed Abilene Christian's Jessica Shiery of extra bases with a running snag against the wall in the third inning, then took another hit away from Genevie Ramirez with play over her head down the line in the fifth.
Reynolds also drove in MSU's first run of the game in fourth when her single up the middle plated
Becca Wessels, who had come on to run for
Jessica Rodriguez.
Petersen pushed the lead to 2-0 with her single later in the inning before Bishop launched her first career homer to left center in the seventh.
Kim White (7-5) took the loss for the Wildcats, who dropped to 19-16.
White allowed four runs – all earned – on four hits while walking four and striking out none.
Bishop accounted for half of MSU's productivity by going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
