Rodriguez, Mustangs pound Abilene Christian in Game 2, 8-5

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State's Jessica Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run to lead the Mustangs to an 8-5 win over Abilene Christian in Game 2 Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park.

MSU, which improves to 12-9 with the non-divisional win, concludes its LSC North series with Southwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday afternoon at Mustangs Park. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

Rodriguez blasted her first home run of the season to highlight a four-run, four-hit third inning to give the Mustangs a 5-3 lead.

Maranda Bishop added a run-scoring triple in the decisive third inning. It was her sixth triple of the season. Bishop notched her seventh multiple-hit game of the season by going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Amanda Potysman, who was making her third start of the season at shortstop, lined an RBI-single into left field on her way to a 2-for-3 day with a pair of RBI.

Seniors Ashley Kuchenski and Lindsey Voigt bolstered MSU's 14-hit parade by going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Sophomore right-hander Katie Petersen improved to 8-2 after relieving Kuchenski in the fourth inning.

Petersen allowed an earned on four hits while striking out five and walking one to lower her season ERA to 1.10.

Kuchenski allowed three earned runs on five hits in 3 1/3 innings of work.

Kim McDonald (4-7) took the loss for the Wildcats as the Mustangs touched her up for five runs on seven hits in three innings.

Abilene Christian fell to 11-11.
