WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State gave starting pitcher
Katie Petersen an early two-run lead in Game 1 Saturday afternoon at Mustangs Park.
And the sophomore ace made it stand up by delivering a five-hit shutout as the Mustangs claimed a 2-0 win over Abilene Christian.
Petersen improved to 7-2 while striking out seven and walking two as MSU struck for two runs in the bottom of the first to give Petersen all the run support she would need.
Jessica Rodriguez lined a two-run single into right field to scored
Lindsey Voigt and
Maranda Bishop, who had reached on a an error and a single respectively.
The Mustangs were limited to one hit over the remaining five innings as Abilene Christian's Jacque Gregoire gave the Wildcats three innings of hitless relief.
Kim White, who allowed one earned on three hits in three innings, took the loss for ACU to fall to 5-3.
Voigt, Bishop and Rodriguez accounted for MSU's three hits.
Midwestern State improved to 11-9, while the Wildcats slipped to 11-10.
