Mustangs to face Texas Woman’s in home finale Wednesday night

Midwestern State battles Texas Woman's University in a Lone Star Conference South Division contest Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

For the record

The Mustangs (9-16, 3-9) have lost six-straight games for the first time since losing the last six games of the 2004-05 season w hen MSU finished with a 9-18 overall record. A Midwestern State squad has not lost seven in a row since the 1995-96 season when it lost seven-straight from Jan. 6 to Jan. 27, 1996. The longest skid in program history came during the 1983-84 season when MSU dropped nine in a row.

Texas Woman's University (11-14, 6-6) bring a modest three-game winning streak into the contest as the Pioneers have rebounded for a 5-11 start to win six of their last nine.

What's at stake

Midwestern State efforts to send its senior/last season quartet of Stacey Staten, Brittni Morrison, Kaylon Hodge and Tiffany Cook out by winning their last game under the lights of D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Pioneers can keep their Lone Star Conference postseason tournament dreams alive with a win over Midwestern State. If TWU wins out and Tarleton State loses either at home to Eastern New Mexico tonight or at Angelo State on Saturday, the Pioneers would earn the nod as the South Division's No. 4 next week in Bartlesville. The Pioneers must, however, defeat the Mustangs tonight in Wichita Falls and West Texas A&M in Denton on Saturday.

Who's hot

Junior forward Rosy Ofoegbu erupted out of her late-season slump with a pair of double-digit scoring games last week, including her fourth double-double of the season Saturday at Abilene Christian. Ofoegbu scored 14 points and pulled in six rebounds in an overtime loss to Angelo State before recording a 15-point, 11-rebound performance against the Wildcats. Her 15-point outing Saturday was the most since Ofoegbu scored 17 at Southeastern Oklahoma State on Jan. 12. She has now scored in double figures 12 times this season.

Texas Woman's junior transfer Renee Renz is coming off of her ninth double-double of the season as she scored 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in a 67-54 win for the Pioneers at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday. The transfer from Arkansas-Little Rock is averaging 19.3 points and 10 rebounds a game for the resurgent Pioneers during divisional play. Renz has recorded 10 games of 20-or-more points, including a 27-point, 14-rebound effort against Midwestern State on Feb. 6 at the Magee Center in Denton.

The series

Midwestern State leads the overall series 27-16, but has lost its last two matchups with the Pioneers – both in Denton. The Mustangs have won six of its last seven games against TWU in Ligon Coliseum and is 11-6 all-time against the Pioneers in Wichita Falls.
