DENTON, Texas – Midwestern State's Lindsey Voigt crushed a three-run homer to highlight a six-run third inning as the Mustangs thumped West Texas A&M 9-0 in five innings Sunday afternoon in the Texas Woman's Tournament at  Ryan High School's Tina Menke Field.

The win gave MSU a 4-1 record over the weekend as the Mustangs claimed the TWU Tournament championship while improving to 6-4 on the season.

Voigt, who saw her early season average drop to .211 earlier in the weekend, went 6-for-15 with eight runs, two homers and drove in six runs to improve her season average to .323.

The Mustangs struck for three runs in the top of the first inning as Kristen Stonecipher and Lauren Craig contributed RBI groundouts before Amanda Potysman roped a run-scoring double through the left side of the West Texas A&M infield to stake MSU starter Katie Petersen to an early lead.

It was more than enough support for the sophomore from Plano.

Petersen allowed two hits and a walk to earn her second run-rule shutout of the weekend to improve to 3-2 on the season.

Midwestern's ace limited the opposition to two runs on eight hits while striking 17 and walking three during the two-day tournament. Petersen accounted for three of the MSU's four wins.

Voigt and Potysman each had two hits for the Mustangs, while sophomore shortstop Tabitha Yannetti added a two-run single in the third inning.

Midwestern State plays host to Tarleton State in its home opener at Mustangs' Park this Friday. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.

West Texas A&M fell to 2-3.
